WELEETKA, Okla. (AP) — Folks once settled in this sleepy central Oklahoma town to get away from the crime and hubbub of big-city life. Many residents didn't bolt their doors or draw their shades at night. Most here never worried about people like Kevin Sweat.

Oklahoma agency may have to vote again issues

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Members of a new state agency charged with overseeing Oklahoma's system for compensating injured workers may have to vote again on several issues because of possible violations of a law requiring certain state meetings to be held in public, an attorney general's office spokesman said Friday.
Attorney General Scott Pruitt's office has fired an attorney assigned to the Workers' Compensation Commission and is reviewing previous actions by the three-member panel to determine if any other remedial action needs to be taken, said Pruitt spokesman Aaron Cooper.

City street sweeper involved in accident

Poteau Police are investigating [July 31 11:15 a.m.] a two car accident at the intersection of Grady and South Saddler. One of the vehicles is the Poteau City street sweeper. One person was being treated for injuries. Further information will published in the Friday edition of the Poteau Daily News.

One-vehicle accident happens south of Hodgen

HODGEN — A one-vehicle accident happened at the intersection of U.S. 59 and Holsom Valley Road.
There is one individual reported to be trapped inside the vehicle.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol and LeFlore County Emergency Management Services are working the scene, which may later include Hodgen and/or Heavener fire departments to help with the rescue.
Travelers are urged to avoid this area until after lunchtime.

Heavy rains, flash floods forecast for county

According to the National Weather Service, showers with embedded isolated thunderstorms will continue to spread eastward into eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas today and continue into at least Thursday morning, with locally heavy rain and isolated flash flooding possible.
Widespread 1-3" of rain, with local amounts to 5", will fall through midday Thursday, especially along and on either side of the Interstate 40 corridor.
A Flash Flood Watch is now in effect from 1 p.m. today [July 30] to 1 p.m. Thursday, including the cities of Tulsa, Fort Smith, McAlester and Muskogee.
