2nd case of West Nile confirmed in Oklahoma

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Health officials in Tulsa have confirmed a second human case of the potentially fatal West Nile virus in Oklahoma this year.

The Tulsa Health Department confirmed the case on Thursday. The first confirmed case was in July in Major County.

Few details about the persons infected have been released, other than that both are over the age of 50.

There were 84 cases of West Nile virus in Oklahoma last year, including eight deaths.

A Heavener mother can now rest easier. The twin daughters of Angela Delao of Heavener, 15-year-old twins Jasmine and Jessica, who went missing Saturday were found Wednesday alive and well.

Oklahoma teen birth rate second-highest in US

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A federal report shows Oklahoma has the second-highest teen birth rate in the nation.

The Oklahoman reports (http://bit.ly/1pKpy1y ) the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released the 2012 findings on Wednesday. The 2012 rate was about 47 births per 1,000 teenagers ages 15 to 19. Only New Mexico had a higher rate.

Oklahoma's teen birth rate has decreased over the past 20 years, but at a slower pace than in every state except North Dakota and South Dakota.
The CDC says babies of teen mothers are at higher risk of low birth weight and preterm delivery.

Sens. Boozman, Inhofe to attend Arkansas hearing

FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) — U.S. Sens. John Boozman of Arkansas and Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma are to attend a transportation hearing in Fort Smith.
The two Republicans are to take part in the Regional Intermodal Transportation Authority hearing on Tuesday in western Arkansas.
Boozman and Inhofe are members of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee that has jurisdiction over both the U.S. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The two agencies are responsible for transportation infrastructure, including interstates and navigable waterways.

Area principal arrested for DUI

A high school principal and athletic director for Spiro Public Schools was arrested overnight.
Tracy Saling, 50, was arrested about 11:15 p.m. Monday after a Poteau police officer reportedly witnessed him cross the center line on Broadway near Walmart in Poteau.
According to Poteau Police, Saling was jailed on suspicion of driving under the influence, transporting an open container and possession of a firearm while intoxicated.
