Emergency crews respond to multiple injury accident

July 17, 2014

Police, fire and emergency medical services are enroute [4:10 p.m. July 17] to a two-car accident on Oklahoma Highway 63 at the Frazier Lane intersection southeast of Talihina.
According to responders, one vehicle is on its top, four people are seriously injured and some are trapped inside a wrecked vehicle.
One of the vehicles was a pickup towing a horse trailer, according to dispatch information.
No further information is available at this time.

Amber Alert issued for Oklahoma child

An Amber Alert has been issued by Kingfisher County officials regarding the abduction of 5-month-old Olivia Smith.
Smith was taken at 12:15 p.m. from a home a 30773 N. 2976 Road, Cashion, Okla. Smith is a white female last seen wearing a long sleeve pink floral shirt.
Police say Smith was taken by 47-year-old Cindy Finley who has mental health conditions and has reportedly said she was having visions of the child dying in two days.
Finley, accompanied by Jennifer Skousen, white female approximately 43 years old, is driving a grey Nissan Murano SUV with Texas license plate.

UPDATE: Malaysian Flight 17 crashes

According to current news reports [1:50 p.m. July 17], a Malaysia Airlines passenger jet crashed in eastern Ukraine today, prompting a Ukrainian official to say that the flight carrying 295 people had been shot down.
CNN reported a Facebook post from Anton Gerashchenko, adviser to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said the Boeing 777 was "shot down" by "terrorists" operating a Buk surface-to-air missile system.
According to initial media reports the plane went down near the town on Torez in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine.

Attorney General Scott Pruitt Files Charges against Nursing Home Administrator

OKLAHOMA CITY– Attorney General Scott Pruitt on Tuesday [July 15] announced the filing of charges against an Enid nursing home administrator accused of taking money from a trust fund for nursing home residents.

Roberta Donaldson, 67, of Enid, is the administrator at Willow Haven Nursing Home in Tonkawa. She is charged with four counts of financial exploitation.

OBI hosts Poteau blood drive

Donors can give blood from 2:15-5:30 p.m.

Teens are invited to attend the "Document a Reaction" program at the Patrick Lynch Public Library today [July 16] at 11:30 a.m.
The event will be held in the library's community room.

ODOT issues travel notice for Sallisaw area

July 16, 2014

LeFlore County residents planning to travel on I40 in Sallisaw should expect possible travel delays.
According to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation I40 between mile marker 311 and mile marker 308 in Sallisaw will be narrowed to one lane in each direction today [July 16].
ODOT is performing pavement testing which effects the lane reduction from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.

State Education Department begins inclusive process to develop new academic standards

OKLAHOMA CITY (July 15, 2013) – The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) is encouraging Oklahoma educators, parents and others interested in public education to consider taking part in the development of new academic standards for English language arts (ELA) and mathematics. Coordinated by OSDE, the standards-creation process is designed to be as inclusive and comprehensive as possible.
