Heather Russell, 42, of Poteau has taken care of others as a nurse at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Ark., for 17 years. About three months ago, she was in need of life-saving care after suffering a stroke. Russell is the wife of Poteau Assistant Chief of Police Greg Russell.
A benefit auction will be hosted by the Poteau Police Department on July 26 at 2 p.m. at the Bob Lee Kidd Civic Center in Poteau.
Also available during the auction is a $5 burger basket including chips and a drink.
All proceeds will help with associated medical costs.
OKLAHOMA CITY â€“ Attorney General Scott Pruitt on Tuesday said the legal claims made in 2011 in Oklahomaâ€™s lawsuit challenging the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) were upheld Tuesday in a ruling by the DC Circuit Court of Appeals.
Oklahomaâ€™s pump price average for regular gasoline has tumbled 18 cents since hitting $3.53 on June 27, according to FuelGaugeReport.AAA.com. The state average has declined for 14 straight days and is now $3.35 per gallon. Nationally, the average price of gas has fallen for 24 consecutive days. Todayâ€™s price, $3.565 per gallon, is the lowest since April 2.
The Fort Smith Little Theater will perform "9 to 5: The Musical," beginning Thursday [July 31] at the Fort Smith Little Theater on North 6th Street in Fort Smith, Ark.
Thursday's performance is the Gala opening; tickets $30.
All other shows tickets are $15. Ticket sales for the public begin July 24.
Evening shows will be held Aug. 1,2,6,7,8 and 9. Show time 7:30 p.m. Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. will be held on Aug. 3, 10.

Five people were injured Saturday after the boat they were on struck a bouy causing the driver to lose control.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lake Patrol Mark Jennings, 38, of Shawnee, Okla. was driving the 2000 31-foot Warlock on the Arkansas River in Sequoyah County when the accident happened.
After striking the bouy, the boat then struck the shore line, according to police.
The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver ruled today [July 18] in favor of same-sex couplesâ€™ freedom to marry in Oklahoma. This is the second consecutive same ruling by thesame three-judge panel who found Utahâ€™s ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutional.

ACCORDING TO KINGFISHER COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE, 5-MONTH-OLD OLIVIA SMITH HAS BEEN LOCATED. SHE WAS ABDUCTED FROM HER GUARDIAN ON THURSDAY, JULY 17, FROM CASHION, OKLA.
Police, fire and emergency medical services are enroute [4:10 p.m. July 17] to a two-car accident on Oklahoma Highway 63 at the Frazier Lane intersection southeast of Talihina.
According to responders, one vehicle is on its top, four people are seriously injured and some are trapped inside a wrecked vehicle.
One of the vehicles was a pickup towing a horse trailer, according to dispatch information.
No further information is available at this time.
An Amber Alert has been issued by Kingfisher County officials regarding the abduction of 5-month-old Olivia Smith.
Smith was taken at 12:15 p.m. from a home a 30773 N. 2976 Road, Cashion, Okla. Smith is a white female last seen wearing a long sleeve pink floral shirt.
Police say Smith was taken by 47-year-old Cindy Finley who has mental health conditions and has reportedly said she was having visions of the child dying in two days.
Finley, accompanied by Jennifer Skousen, white female approximately 43 years old, is driving a grey Nissan Murano SUV with Texas license plate.
