Historic Downtown Poteau, formerly Poteau Mainstreet Matters will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at their new office located at 310 Dewey Ave. in Poteau at noon today [March 19].
Everyone is welcome.

The 911 trust will meet at 9 a.m. today [March 18] to discuss the upcoming Pocola vote regarding cell phone fees.
The meeting will be at the county commissioners room.

The sky was falling

About 2,000 snow geese fell from the sky over Idaho Friday, Avian cholera being investigated as the culprit.
According to news reports, the birds were migrating to nesting grounds in Alaska.
Wild life employees said about 20 bald eagles also were seen near the scene of the dead geese but it is unclear if the eagles could be infected due to the lengthy incubation period.

Top PRCA cowboys enter rodeo

Five of the top 10 PRCA bull riders were scheduled to compete in the Poteau Chamber of Commerce Frontier PRCA Rodeo. Chamber President during the time was Neville Brehm.

Cooper returns as court clerk

District Judge Pat Pate ruled Betty Cooper could return to her position as county clerk since she didn't effectively or validly resign her elected position. Two of the County Commissioners at the time were Charles Cox, Jack Craig.

Truck swept from bridge due to high water

March 14, 2015

One person swam to safety today after their truck was swept from the crossing of Sugarloaf Creek near Monroe. The LeFlore County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident earlier.

LeFlore County Emergency Management posted a flood warning from the National Weather Service in Tulsa about the area.

Forecast flooding has increased from minor to moderate severity.

A flood warning continues for the Poteau River near Panama into late Sunday night. The river flooding is forecasted to continue rising to near 33.1 feet this evening and will fall below flood level late Sunday.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TULSA OK 208 PM CDT FRI MAR 13 2015 ...The National Weather Service in Tulsa has issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers in Oklahoma... Poteau River near Panama affecting Le Flore County.

Poteau road closed due to flooding

Central Street in Poteau between Tarby and Possum Valley is closed due to the low water bridge being underwater. Please use caution in the area and use alternate routes. Forecasts show rain will continue into the night and possibly into the morning hours before the area will see dry weather.

Rains cause rivers, creeks to swell beyond their banks

Overnight rains [March 13] leave roads and ditches flooded in Poteau Friday morning. Rain is expected to continue through the night.
