For nearly four decades, a Poteau man has dedicated his life to making a positive impact on youth in need, but that era came to an end after Rick Couri’s retirement in December.
Couri, 65, has spent the past 39 years of his life working for LeFlore County Youth Services. During his time with the organization, he has had an effect not only on the children he has helped and their families, but also on a community and his co-workers.

A head-on collision in Howe at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning has resulted in several people injured.
Witness reports say an SUV crossed the center line of U.S. Highway 59 striking a semi-tractor trailer head on.
Moments after the impact, witnesses say the semi exploded.
Emergency crews from Howe Fire and Police, LeFlore County Emergency Medical Services, Tulsa Life Flight and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol were on scene.
Initial reports say three people were injured in the accident. Two people were flown from the scene by medical helicopter.
Dori Wiles Bowman has been known for two decades as the lady to go to for all your hair care needs. But recently she expanded her services by opening Dori’s LeFlore County Transport.

The Poteau Chamber of Commerce has been serving business and the community since 1912.
Officials at the chamber office like to say that they are a one-stop center for information on businesses, events, area attractions, maps, phone books, rental lists, industry lists, state information and statistics.

A Panama man accused of beating his father to death has been charged with first-degree murder by the LeFlore County District Attorney's Office.
On Monday, a charge was filed against Timothy Rue Lockaby, accusing him of hanging and beating his 77-year-old father, Arlen Buck Lockaby, until he was dead.

Poteau Valley Humane Society has been at its present location since 2006 when two families of Poteau, the Reed Family and George Ollie Jr., provided funds to building the beautiful facility on Industrial Boulevard.

The Heavener Roundup Club's 2013 playday season will begin at 7 p.m. Friday in the Davis Arena in the Hontubby community just south of Heavener.
Organizers have decided to run all of the lead line events at 7 p.m. All other age groups are guaranteed not to begin before 8 p.m. and will include a 10-minute warm-up period in the arena. There are divisions for all ages.
Merchant fraud is an unfortunate loss many business owners may encounter. "Risky Business: Protecting Your Business from Theft and Fraud" is offered to teach small-business owners how to be on guard for merchant theft and fraud and take the necessary steps to prevent it. The workshop will be held on April 22 from 3-5- p.m. at the OSU Cooperative Extension Office, 103 N. Church St.
