Police recover car, identify slain Okla. woman

TAHLEQUAH (AP) — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has identified a woman found slain in her home in Tahlequah.

OSBI says 40-year-old Tiffany Rene Maher was found dead in her apartment last week.

Investigators were able to locate her car after publicizing a description of the 2011 Ford Fiesta. A Tulsa man saw the description on television news and called police.

OSBI says the car was recovered at the Stone Haven Villas apartment complex in Tulsa on Monday.

Gov. Fallin declares LeFlore County in State of Emergency

On Monday, Gov. Mary Fallin announced she was declaring a State of Emergency for 25 counties in Oklahoma, including LeFlore County.
The declaration is an amendment to the original declaration made May 19.
The recent severe weather, tornadoes, straight-line winds, flooding and damaging hail that have ravaged the state has caused numerous fatalities and injuries as well as extensive property damages.

Hearing set for OSU sex assault suspect delayed

STILLWATER (AP) — A hearing for a former Oklahoma State University student charged with sexual battery has been delayed.

A preliminary hearing was set in Payne County for Monday for 22-year-old Nathan Cochran [of Heavener]. A lawyer for Cochran told the Tulsa World on Monday the proceeding was being rescheduled.

The attorney, Jay Husbands, said a new hearing date could be set later in the day.

The hearing is to determine whether there is sufficient evidence for Cochran to be tried.

Elvis Thacker will stand trial

After two competency evaluations, Special Judge Jeff Singer has ruled that Elvis Aaron Thacker, 25, will stand trial in the death of Brian Jane Ault.
Thacker and his brother Johnathen Don James Edward Thacker, 24, were charged with multiple violent crimes in Oklahoma and Arkansas, in connection with the discovery of the body of victim Briana Jane Ault, 22, in a pond near Pocola on Sept. 13, 2010.
Thacker is scheduled to appear Aug. 15 at 9 a.m. for preliminary hearing proceedings.

State of emergency declared by LeFlore County officials

Recent flooding in the southern portion of LeFlore County has resulted in local emergency management seeking a disaster declaration from the Governor.

Summerfield family loses home to fire

An early morning house fire has destroyed the home of a Summerfield family.
At about 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning, the home of Barbara Grey burned to the ground, according to neighbors.
Grey was at home at the time of the fire and was able to get out safely.
Multiple fire departments responded to the blaze and was able to keep the fire from spreading to nearby storage buildings and a barn.
Grey's daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren who live with her, were not home at the time of the fire.

Area flooding washes away bridges, roads; several people trapped in their homes.

According to Michael Davidson, emergency management director,significant flooding has occurred overnight in areas of central and southern LeFlore County. Some areas received over 6” of rain fall in storms that were slow moving or training over the same general area, said Davidson.

Businesses, lawmakers unveil school shelter plan

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A bipartisan group of Oklahoma lawmakers is teaming up with several businesses to start a fund to build safe rooms or underground shelters in public schools across the state.
Flanked by business leaders and school officials from Moore, legislators announced Thursday they had created and launched a nonprofit group called Shelter Oklahoma Schools to help fund the effort.

Severe thunderstorm warning issued for LeFlore County

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for the southern parts of LeFlore County.
Communities in the path of the storm include Honobia, Muse, Big Cedar and Page.
