On Friday December 30, 2011, Poteau Mayor Jeff Shockley announced that an agreement had been reached and finalized with a Chinese firm to reopen the Tiger Trucks facility (now Tiger International) in the Poteau Industrial Park.
Tiger Trucks originally opened its doors in Poteau July 31, 2008, while under the ownership of a different Chinese firm. Which offered jobs to approximately 300 workers, and was the first U.S. play to produce Chinese heritage vehicles. The Poteau plant was designed to manufacture 7,500 vehicles per year.

A Heavener man is recovering from injuries sustained in a Monday evening hit and run accident.
According the the incident report, Heavener Police Officer Derrick Woodral was notified that a hit and run accident involving a pedestrian had occurred at 605 W. Ave. H.
When Woodral arrived at the scene, he observed Marcus Skelton 26, of Heavener, who was allegedly suffering from a broken leg due to an incident between him and Jerami Casteel,23, of Heavener.

The status of a local post office is out in the open after the United States Postal Service provided the property owner with a lease agreement that seems less than acceptable.
According to property owner, Steven Katten, his family built and have owned the Cameron Post Office property for 40 years. The building, which was built to USPS specifications by his mother, has housed the Post Office since its completion. That may change soon due to what Katten cites as an "onerous proposal" by the USPS.

The Board of County Commissioners, LeFlore County, State of Oklahoma, met in a Regular Business Meeting on December 27, 2011 at 9 a.m. with Chairman Lance Smith presiding. Also present were Vice-Chairman Derwin Gist, Member Cebern Scott and County Clerk First Deputy Roxane Ballew.
The following action was taken by the board:
Item 1 – Chairman Lance Smith called meeting to order.
Item 2 – Motion was made by Lance Smith and seconded by Derwin Gist to approve the minutes of December 19, 2011. Motion was approved all voting yes.

The annual Community Christmas Dinner was once again a huge success in Poteau serving more than 415 dinners.
December 23rd
Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone, in a one bedroom house made of plaster and stone. I had come down the chimney with presents to give, and to see just who in this home did live. I looked all about, a strange sight I did see, no tinsel, no presents, not even a tree. no stockings by mantle, just boots filled with sand, on the wall hung pictures of far distant lands. With medals and badges, awards of all kinds, a sober thought came through my mind. For this house was different, it was dark and dreary, I found the home a soldier, once I could see clearly.

The Poteau High School Choir has been invited to perform at the world famous Carnegie Hall in New York City in May of 2012, and one local doctor is doing her part to help her local high school choir. Dr. Myra Gregory hand made quilt features the names of the Poteau Pirate Football team from Freshman to Seniors. The quilt is on display at Dr. Gregory's office at 2202 North Broadway in Poteau.
Monday evening members of the LeFlore County Emergency Medical Services board meet to discuss a pending investigation or action against LeFlore County EMS. The board took no action on the matter nor did they confirm what the investigation was about. However, Former EMS director Bob Hawley attended the meeting and made a public statement which eluded that the investigation was in regard to the Federal Labor Board.
December 16th
State Highway 59S is currently closed to all but small passenger vehicles. A semi, which was transporting a wide load, has the roadway blocked after the load shifted.
A partial lane remains open as Law Enforcement and work crews wait for a crane to arrive from Tulsa to replace the load onto the trailer.
According to witnesses, small cars and trucks can pass through the partially obstructed lane but semi tractor trailers are blocked from traveling through the narrow lane.
