Oklahoma man faces manslaughter charge in stove explosion

MULDROW, Okla. (AP) — Eastern Oklahoma authorities have arrested a man who they say caused a stove explosion that killed an 8-year-old boy.

Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart says the 22-year-old man faces a manslaughter charge. The boy died Monday morning after being hit by pieces of the stove on Sunday. His stepfather was also hit with shrapnel and was treated at an Arkansas hospital.

The boy's identity hasn't been released.

Poteau Police search for missing man

Poteau Police are searching [Feb. 10] for an elderly man who has been reported missing.
81-year-old Jack Davis was last seen Monday at about 8 p.m. at 305 Crest Court in Poteau
He was last seen driving a 1999 4-door White Lincoln Towncar with Oklahoma license 257LAV. Davis also is possibly wearing fleece pajamas.
According to the police, Davis has a medical condition that could affect his safety.

Benson-Womack announce engagement

Mr. and Mrs. David Benson of Poteau are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Breanna Lee Benson, to Shawn Michael Womack, son of Kendra and Randy Dewese of Fayetteville, Ark., and Mike and Joy Womack of Poteau.

The future bride recently received a Master of Arts degree in clinical mental health counseling from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

The future groom graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith with a Bachelor of Arts degree in organizational leadership. He is employed at Arkansas Best Freight in Fort Smith.

Man arrested after many dead animals found on ranch

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) — A 54-year-old man has been arrested after eastern Oklahoma authorities say they found dozens of dead animals on his ranch.

The Muskogee County District Attorney's Office expects to charge him with multiple counts of cruelty and neglect.

The Muskogee County sheriff tells the Tulsa World about 30 dead horses and seven dead cows were found the man's 360-acre ranch this weekend.

Animal control officials received a report from someone who spotted dead horses on the man's property.

Bill allows ministers to refuse gay marriages

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A bill that would allow Oklahoma ministers to be immune from civil liability for refusing to officiate a same-sex marriage has cleared a House committee.

The bill by Broken Arrow Republican Rep. David Brumbaugh passed the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday with a 7-2 vote. It now heads to the full House for consideration.

The bill states licensed ministers shall be immune from any civil claim based on their refusal to recognize any marriage that violates the minister's "conscience or religious beliefs."
