Motel sign, missile among new bombing museum artifacts

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum is unveiling $10 million worth of new exhibits, including artifacts like a sign from the Kansas hotel where convicted bomber Timothy McVeigh stayed before the bombing.

The memorial is planning to hold a grand-reopening Thursday in downtown Oklahoma City to celebrate enhancements that began one year ago.

The museum has added 35 new interactive exhibits on the investigation, first responders on the scene, and journalists who covered the bombing on April 19, 1995, that killed 168 people and injured hundreds more.

Several blood drives planned in county

The Oklahoma Blood Institute will hold several blood drives in Leflore County to help stock needed supplies.

Donors will receive a appreciation gift from OBI's Treasure Chest and receive health screenings and donor reward points redeemable at OBI's online store. Donors may forgo their gift with funds going to the Global Blood Fund to aid in blood assistance for developing countries.

To donate, 16-year-olds must weigh at least 125 pounds and provide signed parental permission; 17-year-olds must weigh at least 125 pounds; 18-year-olds and older must weigh at least 110 pounds.

Semi carrying military explosives crashes in Oklahoma

HUGO, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says ordnance inspectors with the military have determined that explosives carried on a tractor-trailer that crashed near Hugo in southeastern Oklahoma are stable and are not a danger.

OHP Lt. John Vincent said the military grade explosives were being taken to the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant in McAlester when the semi and another vehicle collided on U.S. 271 about 12:20 a.m. Wednesday. One driver was hospitalized in unknown condition. It wasn't known which driver was injured.

Weather Service: State saw fewest tornadoes in 2014

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Just 16 tornadoes touched down in Oklahoma in 2014, which the National Weather Service says is the fewest on record.

Oklahoma state climatologist Gary McManus says a combination of factors led to the relative lack of tornadoes, The Oklahoman reported Saturday (http://bit.ly/1I8sKK8 ).

DHS Aging Services seeks nominations for awards

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma Department of Human Services Aging Services is seeking nominations for the 2015 Achievement in Aging Awards.

DHS will accept nominations until Jan. 30. Winners will be recognized for their contributions in support of older Oklahomans during the 40th Annual Oklahoma Conference on Aging May 5-7.

Award categories include Advocate of the Year, Business Partner of the Year, Professional of the Year, Program of the Year, and Individual Volunteer of the Year.

New Year's crash claims 1 life, passenger critical

An early morning crash Thursday has taken the life of one man and critically injured another after their vehicle rolled over southwest of Bokoshe, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

The crash claimed the life of 21-year-old Jean Thomas Craig of Sallisaw while his passenger, Benjermen Wert, 20, of Fort Smith, was transported to Sparks regional Medical Center with critical injuries, OHP said.

The crash report said both men were ejected from the vehicle, were not wearing seatbelts but it is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the accident.
