OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) â€” Legislation that protects members of the clergy who refuse to perform a same-sex marriage ceremony has been approved by the Oklahoma House and Senate.
The House voted 87-8 for the bill Wednesday while a nearly identical bill passed the Senate on a 38-5 vote. All opposing votes came from Democrats.
The bills protect clergy members and others authorized to perform weddings from being required to perform them if it conflicts with their religious beliefs. They also shield churches from being required to participate in the ceremonies.
Victims advocates are preparing for the National Crime Victims Rights Week ceremony to be held at the LeFlore County Courthouse starting at noon today [April 23].

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) â€” The Oklahoma Geological Society said Tuesday it is "very likely" that most of the state's recent earthquakes were triggered by the subsurface injection of wastewater from oil and natural gas drilling operations.
Geologists have been studying the cause of hundreds of earthquakes that have shaken the homes and the nerves of residents in central and north-central Oklahoma, where the pace of oil and gas drilling has accelerated in recent years.

The suspect in a Saturday shooting in Spiro that sent one man to the hospital has been jailed, according to LeFlore County Sheriff Rob Seale.
Felisha Louann Carshall, 23, is accused of shooting Tyler Dunnigan in the head. He survived and was treated, released, and now is in custody for warrants.
Seale said Carshall was found Monday and jailed in Fort Smith, Ark.
Charges were not filed against Carshall in LeFlore County as of Monday afternoon.
EDITOR'S NOTE: On April 19, 1995, a former U.S. Army soldier parked a rented Ryder truck packed with explosives outside a federal building in Oklahoma City. The blast killed 168 people and injured more than 500 others, and the attack is the worst homegrown terror attack on American soil.
The bombing came only two years after the first attack on the World Trade Center.
