Renovations at airport continue

The Robert S. Kerr airport in Poteau is undergoing some renovations as the ramp used for parking planes is being resurfaced. The job is expected to be competed in about 30 days.

Memorial Day Benefit Wagon Ride

The Annual Memorial Day Benefit Wagon Ride will start from the LeFlore County Fairgrounds this Saturday [May 24] at 8 a.m. and will conclude in participating in the Old Fort Days Rodeo Parade in downtown Fort Smith on Monday morning. TCSB awarded transportation bid

A $640,000 transportation bond passed by voters to benefit the Poteau School District has been bid and voted on by the Board of Education.
The Community State Bank was one of four banks who submitted a bid to finance the bond. They provided the lowest interest rate and were approved by the board.

County commissioners hold weekly meeting

The LeFlore County Commissioners will hold their regular weekly meeting at 9 a.m. today {May 19] at the LeFlore County Courthouse.

Local choir makes state grade

The Treble Choir of the Cavanal Chorale received an honorable mention April 26 at the State Junior Music Festival held at Southern Nazarene University. They performed “Ubuntu” in the upper elementary ensemble competition. The choir is under the direction of Matthew Houston of Heavener.
The Poteau Musical Arts Society paid the entry fees for the students attending the state competition. The Poteau Musical Arts Society is a member of the Oklahoma and National Federation of Music Clubs.

Historical lecture draws large crowd

A large number of people attended a lecture by Oklahoma Historical Society Director Bob Blackburn Friday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center.
Blackburn was the guest speaker during the monthly First Friday luncheon hosted by the Poteau Chamber of Commerce.
Robert S. Kerr's impact on the county, state and nation as well as sustaining Kerr history were the main topics of Blackburn's speech.

State Historical Society director to speak at First Friday lunch

Oklahoma Historical Society Director Bob Blackburn will discuss the impact of Robert S. Kerr today [May 16] at noon during the Poteau Chamber of Commerce First Friday Lunch.
The event will be held at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center Salon B.

The LeFlore County Extension of OSU Extension Services office is celebrating its 100th anniversary today [May 16] from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Join the Extension for their special day at the annex building located behind the LeFlore County Courthouse in Poteau.

Area students make SWOSU honor roll

A total of 1,187 students has been named to honor rolls at Southwestern Oklahoma State University for academic work during the 2014 spring semester on the Weatherford campus.
There were 486 students named to the President’s Honor Roll. An undergraduate student who earns all A’s in 12 or more hours during a semester qualifies for the President’s Honor Roll.
There were 701 students on the Dean’s Honor Roll. An undergraduate student who completes 12 semester hours with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher with no grade lower than “C” qualifies for the Dean’s Honor Roll.
