Two indicted in Oklahoma for making a terrorist hoax

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A federal prosecutor says two people have been indicted in Oklahoma for making a terrorist hoax and conspiracy.

U.S. Attorney Sanford Coats says 19-year-old Israa Jafar Ali of Oklahoma City and 23-year-old Sajjad Hussein Al Fehaidah of Saudi Arabia were indicted on Wednesday by a federal grand jury in Oklahoma City.

Winter Weather Warning issued for LeFlore County

The following is from the National Weather Service in Tulsa:

A strong cold front will make its way through eastern OK and northwest AR tonight...ushering in colder air by Wednesday morning. As the colder air arrives ... freezing rain will occur first followed by sleet and then eventually snow
The transition from ice to sleet and snow will occur during the afternoon and evening hours. The snow will taper off by Thursday morning. Travel will likely be impacted by this storm...and a few minor and brief power outages may occur.

Spiro, Leflore residents don't forget to vote

Residents within the Spiro School District will approve or deny a $1.95 million bond for improvements to the schools. Polls are open today [March 3] until 7 p.m.
The Town of Leflore will hold its biannual meeting at 7 p.m. tonight at the Community Building.

Oklahoma Right to Try expands access to experimental drugs

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Ted Harada says that, statistically, he shouldn't be alive today.

The 43-year-old former manager for FedEx in Atlanta was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease, in August 2010, and the average lifespan for someone with the disease is two to five years after diagnosis.

Harada was accepted into a clinical trial for ALS patients that involved an experimental medical procedure, and he said it dramatically slowed the disease's progression.

Poteau City Council meets Monday

The Poteau City Council will meet tonight, Monday, March 2, at the city hall building at 111 Peters St. in Poteau.

Agenda items for the meeting include the following:

• Vote to enter executive session pursuant to 25 O.S. Section 307(B)(4) to discuss pending litigation.
• Vote to return from executive session.
• Consideration/Action regarding pending litigation.

Sleet and snow hit LeFlore County; Round 2

Law enforcement is encouraging drivers to stay off the road as road conditions, which already are slick, worsen (Feb. 28 10 a.m.)
At about 10:15 a.m. sleet began falling in the Cameron area and additional snow fall is expected throughout the day.

Roads become slick, accidents in county

February 27, 2015

Law enforcement are working many wrecks in LeFlore County as snowfall causes traffic issues today (Feb. 27 at 3:50 p.m.)
Snow is expected to continue until about 9 p.m. tonight.

Donald W. Reynolds Community Center events postponed

February 27, 2015

Cavanal Chorale Showcase that was set for 7 p.m. February 27 at the Donald W. Reynolds Center in Poteau has been postponed due to weather Friday. The film screening of "To Light a Candle" has also bee postponed.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until Midnight. Roads are becoming slick, especially on bridges, overpasses and untreated roads, the National Weather Service in Tulsa reported. The snow is expected to shift late tonight.

According to the National Weather Service winter weather is again on its way for Poteau and the LeFlore County area.

This Afternoon
A 30 percent chance of snow, mainly after 3pm. Cloudy, with a high near 29. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

Tonight
A 20 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 21. East wind 5 to 10 mph.
