The Oaks Healthcare Center is proud to remain one of the biggest employers in Poteau. Some may recall the day when the Oaks was considered the old folkâ€™s home where everyone goes when they are at the end of the road of life. Those days are long gone.
The Oaks is a hustling, bustling place full of love and life. The Oaks has a fully staffed rehabilitation department that has a long list of many patients they have got back on their feet again and home.
A new era in emergency medical care has begun in LeFlore County with the landing of Tulsa Life Flight at its new base at the Robert S. Kerr Airport in Poteau.
Tulsa Life Flight base four, owned by Air Methods Corp., began its local operations Jan. 12. By opening the Poteau location, Life Flight officials said they have greatly reduced their flight time, by approximately 30 minutes, compared with a run that was responding from the next nearest base in Keefeton.
POCOLA â€” Choctaw Casino Hotel, one of nine casinos operated by the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, is opening the next phase of a multi-million dollar expansion that includes a hotel, event venue, additional gaming and a parking garage.
Approximately 1,000 teenagers and adults â€” members of FFA and 4-H Chapters from throughout the United States and their parents, coaches and teachers â€” will come to Oklahoma City next week, as they have the first week of May for more than six decades, to compete in a national educational competition. The National Land and Range Judging Contest, a three-day event that stresses soil and plant science, land management and conservation, marks its 62nd anniversary beginning on Tuesday, April 30.
Dr. Ted Kondos has been serving the dental needs of Poteau and the surrounding communities since 1981. Many of his patients have been with his practice since he began with Dr. Ken Hammond 32 years ago.
â€śI am thankful for all the patients who have visited my practice and have accepted me and my family into the community. My wife, Shaun and I have raised our three children here and have been delighted to be a part of Poteau,â€ť Kondos said.
The LeFlore County Health Department is soon to move into itâ€™s new multi-million-dollar facility located on Dewey Avenue in Poteau.
The current health department was built in the 1960s and has been constantly declining over the years since the department took possession of the building in 1991. The building was originally a nursing home and its dilapidated state was the driving force behind the new facility.
A new health facility that provides services to insured and non-insured patients regardless of their income has made itâ€™s home in Poteau.
The Health and Wellness Center, located at 204 Wall St., Suite A, is a branch of the Stigler-based company and opened its doors locally on October 15, 2012. The plan to find a home for a center in Poteau began several years ago.
For 63 years the Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center has been committed to providing quality health care to the families of southeastern Oklahoma. With a new home in Poteau completed a decade ago, the stations located in Spiro, Pocola and Heavener since have had a makeover from small homes or single-wide trailers to modern stations.
