According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, scattered thunderstorms will develop this morning and into the afternoon ahead of an approaching cold front. A few may strengthen to severe levels between 10 am and 4 pm with half dollar size hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph the main threats. The thunderstorms will be east of the region by the evening hours as dry air moves in behind the front.
Poteau Police and the LeFlore County Sheriff's Department provide a grand entrance into town to the Poteau High School Band as they returned to Poteau having won first place at state concert competition Wednesday [April 23].

The LeFlore County Commissioners approved an order and resolution Monday morning [April 21] calling for a special election for a half cent of 1 percent sales tax to benefit Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center.
The annual Heavener Runestone Easter Egg Hunt hosted by the local Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter drew a large number of area youth as they searched for the 4,900 hidden eggs.

Members of the Treble Choir of the Cavanal Chorale who were named district festival winners will compete at the Oklahoma State Junior Music Festival Competition April 26.
The Poteau Musical Arts Society provides the entry fees. The festival is sponsored by the National Federation of Music Clubs.
The LeFlore County Commissioners will meet today [April 21] at 9 a.m. to decide if a sales tax proposition will make it to the ballot for county voters. The one-half of 1 percent sales tax will benefit Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center.
The commissioners meet at the LeFlore County Courthouse.
The LeFlore County Commissioners are scheduled to discuss Monday [April 21] adopting an order to provide a one-half of one percent county sales tax to benefit Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center. If approved they will discuss a resolution for a special election to let the voters decide.
The meeting will be held at 9 a.m. at the commissioners meeting room at the LeFlore County Courthouse.
As Easter nears the annual trek by many to bear the cross of Jesus through LeFlore County was underway Thursday. On Friday [April 18], LeFlore County Sheriff's Department and LeFlore County Emergency Management employees carried the cross from Poteau to Heavener.
Kreg Haney and partner Kacie J. Deere were supported by family, friends and area business owners Friday morning [April 18] as they held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center as the newest member of the Poteau Chamber of Commerce.
