Lena Smith

Lena Smith, 87, formerly of Poteau died Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Lakeview Christian Home in Carlsbad, N.M.
Lena was born Aug. 7, 1923, to George Addison and Nancy Elizabeth (Gabbard) Rice. She grew up in Oklahoma and attended school there. On Nov. 18, 1939, she married Eugene “Gene” E. Smith and following WWII they moved to Carlsbad.

Jerry Wayne Stewart

Jerry Wayne Stewart, 64, of Benton, Ark., died Sunday, July 10, 2011. He was born Sept. 29, 1946 in Poteau. Jerry was an attorney in Benton for 30 years and was an avid horse racing fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Nadine Stewart, and twin daughters, Jerilyn and Melissa Stewart.
He is survived by his son, Jay Stewart and wife Magen of Little Rock, Ark.; brother, Larry Stewart of Fort Smith, Ark.; granddaughter, Haylee Stewart of Benton and his former wife, Linda Stewart.

Mickey Smedley

Mickey Smedley, 68, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011.
He was born May 1, 1943, in Los Angeles to Harry and Relda Mae Smedley. His grandparents were Robert E. Lee and Josie Cooper.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Smedley; son, Mike Smedley of Poteau; daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Greg Phillips of Poteau; stepson and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Dannie McClain; grandchildren, Breanna Humphrey, Meagan Phillips, Michael and Sara Humphrey, Michael Phillips, Johnathon Phillips, Corey McClain and Kealie McClain; and great-grandson, Jay Den Dre Humphrey.

Janet Killian Pugh

Janet Killian Pugh, 66, of Poteau died Friday, July 8, 2011, in Spiro.
Born Nov. 18, 1944, in Greenwood, Miss., Janet was the daughter of Sidney Ernest Killian and Hazel Marie “Sue” Killian. Janet married Curtis Pugh on Jan. 29, 1966, in Memphis, Tenn. God blessed them with more than 45 years of marriage. Janet was a faithful, godly, loving wife and mother and served diligently with her husband who was an independent, sovereign grace, landmark, missionary Baptist preacher for more than 26 years on the foreign fields of Canada and Romania.

Louise King

Louise King, 83, of Poteau, died Sunday, July 10, 2011, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Louise was born Jan. 9, 1928, in Gilmore to Charley and Carrie Barnhill. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Poteau.
Survivors include her husband, Carl of the home; son, Larry W. King of Livermore, Calif.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; other relatives and loved ones; many beloved friends.
Services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, July 14, in Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, with The Rev. Jim Cook officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.

Ellen Milam

Ellen Milam, 82, of Poteau died Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Ellen was born Sept. 10, 1928, a twin and one of 14 children to Minnie Lewis. In her younger years she enjoyed playing basketball, tennis, and bowling. Ellen worked along side her husband of over 50 years, Norman Dale Milam, owner/operator of the Poteau City Shoe Market. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and was a member of the Poteau First Baptist Church.

Ophelia Irene Plummer

Ophelia Irene Plummer, a beautiful Christian woman, passed into eternal rest on July 9, 2011.
She was born April 23, 1924, in Hon, Ark., to Eliza and Claud Latta. She attended school in western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma. She met the love of her life, Derrell Plummer, while attending high school. They were married Nov. 7, 1942. This autumn they would have celebrated their 69th anniversary. Ophelia always had deep appreciation for the arts. She and her sister Emma (“Jimmie” “Judy”) were frequently asked to sing duets at church services and gatherings.

Charles Lafayette Hunget, 80, of Poteau, died July 2, 2011, in Poteau. He was born Sept. 4, 1930, in Grover, Colo., to John Rufus and Gladys Emma (Moore) Hunget. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 57 years, Donna Lee (Clark) Hunget; a daughter, Sharon; two brothers, Robert Hunget and John Hunget; and a sister, Julie Moore.

Lorene Sara Leecy Hudlow, 88, of Fanshawe died Thursday, July 7, 2011 in Poteau. Lorene was born Dec. 18, 1922, in Fanshawe to Walter Lee and Lillian (Stickney) Herrington. She was a homemaker.
Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd Hudlow Sr.; brother, Lee Herrington; daughter, Deborah Hudlow; grandchildren, Mitzi Campbell and Jason “Lil Man” Hudlow.
