Booth Dean Grey

October 6, 2011

Booth Dean Grey, 71, of Summerfield
died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011 in
Summerfield. Dean was born Oct. 17,
1939, in Summerfield to Malcolm and
Bessie (Hollan) Grey. He was a member
of the International Brotherhood
Electrical Workers and a veteran of the
U.S. Army. He loved helping people,
hunting, fishing, dogs and horses. He
was preceded in death by his birth parents; foster parents,
Jacob and Margie James; sisters and brothers-in-law,
Eunice and Joe Bandoni, Bobbie and Curly Cooper. He
loved and was so proud his kids, his grandkids, and his
good friends.

Ella Louise Chumley

Ella Louise Chumley, 66, of Panama
died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, in Fort
Smith, Ark. Ella was born July 29, 1945,
in Galveston, Texas, to Newlin Burg Jr.
and Waltina Nadean (Finley) Travis. Ella
was a retired teacher. In her career she
taught in Talihina, Catoosa and Pocola
Public Schools. Ella belonged to The
Delta Kappa Gamma Society International,
her professional organization for 30 years. She was currently
serving as DKG Beta Lambda Chapter Secretary
and on the DKG State Nominations Committee as well as
the Educational Excellence Committee. She was a past

Luther Wayne Strickland, 79, of Heavener died Sunday,
Oct. 2, 2011, in Poteau. He was born Sept. 4, 1932, in
DeQueen, Ark. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 5, at First Baptist Church, Heavener,
with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Dowden Funeral
Home, Heavener, is handling arrangements.

Jonathan H. Carden

Jonathan H. Carden, 29, of Fort Smith,
Ark., died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, in Fort
Smith. Jonathan was born in Fort Smith on
Nov. 3, 1981 to Randall W. and Donna
(Chestine) Carden. He was preceded in death
by his half brother, Henry Joe Harrison; stepbrother,
Chris Carden; and maternal grandparents,
Margie and Leon Drake.
Survivors include his wife, Tabatha (Langston) Allison
of Fort Smith; daughter, Cassie Carden of Roland; son,
Corbin Adam Carden; mother, Donna Carden Eller of
Poteau; father, Randy Carden of Covington, Ga.; brother,

Freida Elizabeth Baird

Freida Elizabeth Baird, 92, of Poteau
died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011 in Poteau.
Freida was born Feb. 7, 1919, in Lancaster,
Texas, to Nick Olen and Eddie C.
(Brundage) Worley. She worked in a dry
goods store as a clerk and many years at
City Shoe Market. Freida was preceded in
death by her husband, Idus Baird; great
grandson, Carson Wann; and her parents.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy
and Jim Wann of Poteau; grandchildren, Roger and Dawn
Wann of Lindsey, Texas, Danny and Elizabeth Wann of
Poteau; great-grandchildren, Nathan Privett, Britney

Artie Bell Margaret Deleplank

Artie Bell Margaret Deleplank, 74,
of Poteau died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011 in
Heavener. Artie was born in Calhoun on
Sept. 10, 1937, to Frances Dora (Chitwood)
Phillips. Artie was a loving wife, mother
and the best granny anyone could have.
She worked for 40 years as a CNA and
touched many lives in her career. She
devoted her life to taking care of others.
She never met a stranger, had an open door and a place
at the dinner table for anyone who was hungry. She loved
taking care and cooking for family and friends. Artie was

Loyce R. Hall

Loyce R. Hall, 68, of Poteau died
Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, in Poteau. Loyce
was born June 14, 1943, in Big Cedar to
the Rev. Carl and Mellie (Jones) Pugh.
Loyce worked at Country Boy Furniture
for 20 years. She was a member of the Free
Will Baptist Church in Panama, where she
served as church clerk for eight years.
Loyce loved her church. She loved to sing and going to the
Saturday Night Jamboree. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Billy Don McAtee; her only daughter, Tami
Branstetter Gottlieb; nephew, Tony Terry; and her parents.

James A. Lewallen

October 4, 2011

James A. Lewallen, 67, of Poteau died Wednesday,
Sept. 28, 2011, in Poteau. James was born in Zoe on Jan.
21, 1944, to Marion J. and Lucinda J. (Dunn) Lewallen.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the
Oakland Cemetery Pavilion with the Rev. Jim Cook officiating.
Burial will follow. Arrangements are under the
direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.

Charles L. Anderson

October 4, 2011

Charles L. Anderson, 77, of Poteau died Wednesday,
Sept. 28, 2011, in Fort Smith, Ark. Charles was born Aug.
11, 1934, to Charles “Woody” Anderson.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 6, at Evans
Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Jim Cook officiating.
Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Evans and Miller
Funeral Home, Poteau, is handling arrangements.

September 30, 2011

Eula Maye Stivers, 90, of Del City died
Sept. 16, 2011, in Oklahoma City. Maye
was born Feb. 5, 1921, in Leflore. She was
the daughter of James Franklin and Nannie
Lou Borden. She was preceded in death by
her parents; daughter, Sandra Pollard;
brother, Robert L. Borden; sisters, Ruth
Mings, Rubye Parks and Rilla Wyatt;
grandson, Nathan Pollard.
Maye is survived by her daughter, Connie Stivers and
husband, John Nolen of Del City; granddaughter, Neile
Blackwell of Del City; grandson, Bryan Pollard and his
wife, Deepa of Tahlequah; many loved nieces, nephews,
