April 17th
Ashley Lemont “Monty” Brown, 50, of Wister died Saturday, April 14, 2012, in Poteau.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Pilgrim’s Rest Church in Reichert with Rev. Bob Cherry officiating. Burial will be in Reichert Cemetery under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.
Jimmie Dean Chestine, 68, of Poteau died Thursday, April 12, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. Jimmie was born Aug. 26, 1943, in Shady Point. Jimmie was a nurse for some 38 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Christine Wade; and brother, Don Chestine.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia of the home; stepdaughters, Debra England of Panama, Kay and Michael Hargrove of Poteau; numerous step-grandchildren.Â
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 17 at the Oakland Cemetery Pavilion, Poteau, with Rev. Jack Covey officiating.Â
April 12th
Ka’Loni Marie Flynn, 20, and her unborn child, Baby Za’Kaylynn, of Fort Smith, Ark., died Monday April 9, 2012. She was born March 4, 1992, in Fort Smith to Herbert Flynn Jr. and Delana (Dixon).Â
 She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Marie Dixon.
Ik Cha “Nina” Kirkland, 77, of Calhoun died Saturday, April 7, 2012, in Heavener.
Nina is the daughter of Mr. Han Kun Pak  and Ms. Hong Chu Yi, both of South Korea.
Nina lived the past 40-plus years in Calhoun. She was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
April 10th
Gary Clay Thompson, 49, of Poteau died Friday, April 6, 2012, in Poteau. Gary was born March 14,1963, in Poteau to Phillip Don and Beverly Wray (Newell) Thompson. Gary worked at OK Foods. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lisa Thompson, and grandparents, Truman and Paulene Thompson.Â
Theresa Ann Cosgrove, 61, of Bokoshe died Friday, April 6, 2012. Services were held Tuesday, April 10, at United Methodist Church in Bokoshe under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home, Spiro.
Jack Dempsey Duncan, 93, of Poteau, formerly of Heavener, died Sunday, April 8, 2012, in Pocola.
Dempsey, a longtime area resident, was born Jan. 7., 1919, in Watts to Albert and Magnolia Parmallee “Nole” (Rhodes) Duncan. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Heavener, a U.S. Army World War II veteran and retied after 40 years as a KCS Railroad engineer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Reta Faye (Bowen) Duncan; and son, Norris Lee Duncan.
April 6th
William Eugene Caldwell, 72, of Bokoshe died Thursday, April 5, 2012, in Bokoshe. He was born Sept. 7, 1939, at Milton, to Juanita Ina (Fox) Culwell and William Hershel Culwell. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of Bokoshe First Baptist Church and a greenskeeper for golf courses.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, William Kyle Caldwell; step-fathers, Tommie Simpson and John Baggs; sister, Loretta (Culwell) Fowler; brother-in-law, Loyal Fowler; and sister Dolores (Simpson) Best.
Kathy Ellen Engles, 52, of Poteau died Thursday, April 5, 2012 in Fort Smith, Ark.
Kathy was born Aug. 17, 1959, in Poteau to Eldon Leroy and Judy Mae (Mabry) Foster. She was an office manager. Kathy was preceded in death by her father and grandmother, Lorene Mabry.

Johnny Pipkins, 57, of Pocola died Tuesday, April 3, 2012, in Pocola. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 6, at Evans Memorial Chapel in Pocola. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery.
