June 5th
Kathryn Crouch of Monroe died Tuesday, June 5, 2012 in Fort Smith, Ark. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at Springhill Baptist Church in Monroe. Burial will be in Monroe Cemetery, under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Dr. Shawn Kersh, 41, of Inverness, Fla., died at his home Friday, May 25, 2012. Shawn was born Jan. 19, 1971, in Fort Smith, Ark., the son of Jim and Diana Kersh. Shawn was a graduate of the Poteau High School Class of 1989. He was a graduate of Oklahoma State University Medical School. Shawn moved to Inverness in 2002 from St. Petersburg, Fla., and became a partner at Inverness Family Care. He also served as a physician for Citrus County School Systems with Citrus County Health and Wellness Center for the past two years. Shawn was a coach for the Inverness Storm Football Team.

Modessa Simpson, 89, Shady Point died June 2, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. She was born March 19, 1923, at Cameron to Manuel and Lucy (Buttress) Pool. Modessa was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delbert Simpson; twin daughters, Corina Stafford and Florina Leverett; three brothers, Garvin, Harvey and Loyell Pool; two sisters, Mamy Simpson and Lois Shaw; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ray McCoin, 92, of Pocola died Monday, June 4, 2012 in Pocola.
Ray was born in Dunklin County, Mo., on Aug. 30, 1919, to Richard and Flossie (Poe) McCoin. Ray was a car salesman and mechanic. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frieda, and sister, Maggie Williams. He loved to golf, travel and drive around. He was a car salesman for years.
Linda Kay Hoffman, 54, Bokoshe died June 3, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. She was born Feb. 6, 1958, in Poteau to Eugene Sr. and Vernice (Jennings) Taylor. Linda Taylor married Richard Hoffman on June 2, 1978, in Spiro. She was employed at Sparks Hospital for 33 years as a Unit Secretary on the Mother Baby Unit. Linda worked on the farm; she enjoyed gardening, crafting and fishing and most of all was a loving wife and mother. She has been a member of Bokoshe First Baptist Church since July 27, 1988.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Eugene Taylor Jr.Â

Ruby Alaina Reece Pate, one of God’s beautiful creations, died May 25, 2012, in Oklahoma City. She was born Nov. 1, 1980, in Poteau.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Gabriel, in November 2008.
Roy Lee Allen Dickerson, 75, of Conway, Ark., formerly of Monroe died Wednesday, May 30, 2012, in Little Rock, Ark. Services will be held at noon Saturday, June 2, at Dowden Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener, with burial in Monroe Cemetery.
