Spencer M. Jones, 88, died Sunday, June 10, 2012. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Christian Grove Free Will Baptist Church under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home, Spiro.
Leola â€śMomaleaâ€ť Nadine Butler, 87, of Spiro died Friday, June 8, 2012, at her home in Spiro.Â Leola was born March 27, 1925, in Hartman, Ark., to Jack and Mary E. (Harris) Shelton. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene Butler; and son, Jack Butler.
Leola loved fishing, dancing, antiquing, sports (especially Oklahoma Sooners and OKC Thunder).Â She retired after working 28 years at Dixie Cup.Â She loved her church.Â She had four special angels from First Baptist Church that she truly appreciated and loved.
Billy V. Butler was born Oct. 28, 1925, to circuit preacher N.D. and Evelyn M. Butler at Octavia. Â He died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, June 8, 2012, at his home in Panama.
Â Bill earned an associateâ€™s degree from Poteau Community College. He was a 32nd Degree Mason through the Scottish Rite Temple in McAlester and a past Worshipful Master at his Cameron lodge.Â He was a WWII veteran.
In 1947, Bill married Wynema Ward, daughter of Ed and Ocie Ward, of Poteau.Â Wynema said he taught her to cook and she taught him to dance.Â The couple had four children.
Leola Nadine Butler, 87, of Spiro died Friday, June 8, 2012, in Spiro.Â Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, at First Baptist Church in Spiro.Â Burial will be in Spiro City Cemetery under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home. The family will visit with family and friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the church.
Christopher Wade Barnes was born to Thomas Cleve â€śBudâ€ť and Donna (Moore) Barnes on Nov. 7, 1973, in Poteau.Â He passed from this life June 6, 2012.
He was a probation and parole officer for the Arkansas Department of Corrections, graduated from Oklahoma State University and was member of First Baptist Church in Poteau. Chris had a vast knowledge of history, a fondness for the outdoors and a deep love of family.
Chris was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Elton and Opal Barnes of Gilmore, and maternal grandparents, Don and Mildred Moore of Poteau.
Donny E. Pendergrass, 42, of Cameron died Monday June 4, 2012, in Cameron.Â Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9, at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau.Â Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery.Â Â
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Evans and Miller funeral home.
Kathryn Crouch of Monroe died Tuesday, June 5, 2012 in Fort Smith, Ark.Â Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at Springhill Baptist Church in Monroe.Â Burial will be in Monroe Cemetery, under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Dr. Shawn Kersh, 41, of Inverness, Fla., died at his home Friday, May 25, 2012. Shawn was born Jan. 19, 1971, in Fort Smith, Ark., the son of Jim and Diana Kersh. Shawn was a graduate of the Poteau High School Class of 1989. He was a graduate ofÂ Oklahoma State University Medical School. Shawn moved to Inverness in 2002 from St. Petersburg, Fla., and became a partner at Inverness Family Care. He also served as a physician for Citrus County School Systems with Citrus County Health and Wellness Center for the past two years. Shawn was a coach for the Inverness Storm Football Team.
Modessa Simpson, 89, Shady Point died June 2, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark.Â She was born March 19, 1923, at Cameron to Manuel and Lucy (Buttress) Pool.Â Modessa was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delbert Simpson; twin daughters, Corina Stafford and Florina Leverett; three brothers, Garvin, Harvey and Loyell Pool; two sisters, Mamy Simpson and Lois Shaw; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ray McCoin, 92, of Pocola died Monday, June 4, 2012 in Pocola.
Ray was born in Dunklin County, Mo., on Aug. 30, 1919, to Richard and Flossie (Poe) McCoin.Â Ray was a car salesman and mechanic.Â He was preceded in death by his wife, Frieda, and sister, Maggie Williams.Â He loved to golf, travel and drive around.Â He was a car salesman for years.
