Lillian Virginnia Pettis, 83, of Howe died Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, in Howe. Lillian was born July 8, 1928, in Wewoka to Walter and Ila Della Hays. She married Doyle Pettis on Aug. 31, 1946, in Wellington, Kan. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughters, Leella Williams and Sonya Pettis; son, Dean Pettis; grandsons, Billy Powell, Doug Rohrbaugh; two sisters and four brothers. She was a longtime resident of Watonga. She was a homemaker.
Alline Mae Logan, 91, of Poteau died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, in Poteau. Alline was born July 17, 1920, in Barber, Ark., to James Daniel and Pernie (Jenkins) Hope. She was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Poteau. Alline was very active in the Hospital Auxiliary, the Free Christian Clinic and Meals on Wheels. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl Logan; three brothers and one sister; great grandson, Nicholas Benson; and daughter-in-law, Mary Logan.
William Henry Grosskopf Jr. of Greenwood, Del., died Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital in Milford, Del. He was 83.
He was born on Oct. 20, 1928, in Bronx, N.Y., son of the late William H. Sr. and Anna Weber Grosskopf.
Johnny Hugh Akins, 68, of Bethany (formerly of Wister) died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, in Bethany. Johnny was born in Poteau on Aug. 3, 1943, to Jess Hugh and Odena Lorene (Nix) Akins.Â He was a carpenter.Â Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bobbie Doris Whitman Akins; and son, Johnny Wayne Akins.
Goldie Lucille Hicks, 93, of Wister died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011 in Fort Smith, Ark. Goldie was born Sept. 20, 1918, in Hollis to Benjamin and Leatha (Burgess) Jones.Â She was a homemaker. Goldie was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Wister for many years.Â She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 29 years, Lige Jay Hicks; great-granddaughter, Autumn Meeks; one brother and four sisters.
Â Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Don Meeks of Wister; grandson and fiancĂ©, Donald and Glenda Meeks of Wister; and niece, Leatha Helmer of Wagoner.
Jo Ann (Best) Allinder, 82, of Blue Springs, Mo., died Nov. 30, 2011, in Clay Center, Kan. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Royer-Hays Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. at The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Blue Springs with burial in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
James Preston â€śDuncanâ€ť Ray Jr., 46, of Poteau, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, in Poteau. Duncan was born July 31, 1965, in Poteau to James Preston and Sharon Kay (Carroll) Ray Sr. He was a roughneck in the oil field. Duncan graduated from Poteau High School in 1983. He loved to hunt and fish and was an avid OU football fan. He loved his granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his sister, LaVanna Marie Ray-Elmore; grandmother, Violet Carroll; and uncle, Cecil â€śRatâ€ť Carroll.
Serenity Raine Tennie, infant daughter of Talayla Tennie, born Nov. 26, 2011, and passed away Nov. 26, 2011.Â
Â She is survived by her mother; two brothers, Joukouri and Desmond Tennie, both of the home; grandmothers, Cheryl Bohannon of Poteau, Evora McKesson and Meloni McKesson; aunts, Kettina White and Tya`LaShun Stevenson of Fort Smith, Ark.; uncle, Reginald Bryson of Japan; as well as numerous other cousins and family members.Â
Jimmy Dean Goldsborough, 76, of Choctaw died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2011 at his home. Graveside funeral and burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Dog Creek Cemetery near Shady Point under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home in Blanchard.
William Durant, 95, of Poteau, died Nov. 27, 2011, in Poteau. No services are planned at this time. Cremation services are under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home, Poteau.
