George Leon Brown, 80, of Spiro died Monday, June 11, 2012. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 15, at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro.
Robert Sean Wheatley, 36 of Fort Smith, Ark., died Saturday, June 9, 2012. He was born Sept. 16, 1975, in Poteau. He was service technician for Air Conditioning Specialist.
He is survived by his parents, Robert and Roberta Wheatley of Fort Smith, his sister, Tabitha House of Fort Smith, and his grandmother, Doris Ivan of Evansville, Ind.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 15, at Fentress Mortuary Chapel with burial to follow at Oak Cemetery in Fort Smith. Arrangements are under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
Don Howard Lee, 72, of Wister died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, in Wister.Â Services will beÂ at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at First Step of Faith, Poteau. Burial will be in Ellis Chapel Cemetery, Wister, under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.
Theodore Lee Hines Jr., 63, of Spiro died Sunday, June 10, 2012, in Talihina.
Theodore was born Oct. 2, 1948, in Muskogee to Theodore Sr. and Margertie (Lewis) Hines.Â He worked at Riverside Furniture.Â He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.Â He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and one brother.Â Theodore was raised in Spiro where he and his two sisters and four brothers also went to school.Â After high school, Theodore joined the Army and went to training camp at Fort Polk, La., and from there to Fort Riley, Kan.Â He was then sent to Germany.Â He served two tours in Vietnam.
John T. Jackson, 81, of Poteau died Saturday, June 9, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. No services are planned at this time. Information provided by Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.
Spencer M. Jones, 88, died Sunday, June 10, 2012. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Christian Grove Free Will Baptist Church under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home, Spiro.
Leola â€śMomaleaâ€ť Nadine Butler, 87, of Spiro died Friday, June 8, 2012, at her home in Spiro.Â Leola was born March 27, 1925, in Hartman, Ark., to Jack and Mary E. (Harris) Shelton. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene Butler; and son, Jack Butler.
Leola loved fishing, dancing, antiquing, sports (especially Oklahoma Sooners and OKC Thunder).Â She retired after working 28 years at Dixie Cup.Â She loved her church.Â She had four special angels from First Baptist Church that she truly appreciated and loved.
Billy V. Butler was born Oct. 28, 1925, to circuit preacher N.D. and Evelyn M. Butler at Octavia. Â He died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, June 8, 2012, at his home in Panama.
Â Bill earned an associateâ€™s degree from Poteau Community College. He was a 32nd Degree Mason through the Scottish Rite Temple in McAlester and a past Worshipful Master at his Cameron lodge.Â He was a WWII veteran.
In 1947, Bill married Wynema Ward, daughter of Ed and Ocie Ward, of Poteau.Â Wynema said he taught her to cook and she taught him to dance.Â The couple had four children.
Leola Nadine Butler, 87, of Spiro died Friday, June 8, 2012, in Spiro.Â Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, at First Baptist Church in Spiro.Â Burial will be in Spiro City Cemetery under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home. The family will visit with family and friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the church.
Christopher Wade Barnes was born to Thomas Cleve â€śBudâ€ť and Donna (Moore) Barnes on Nov. 7, 1973, in Poteau.Â He passed from this life June 6, 2012.
He was a probation and parole officer for the Arkansas Department of Corrections, graduated from Oklahoma State University and was member of First Baptist Church in Poteau. Chris had a vast knowledge of history, a fondness for the outdoors and a deep love of family.
Chris was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Elton and Opal Barnes of Gilmore, and maternal grandparents, Don and Mildred Moore of Poteau.
