Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Conway, Ark., for Billy Jack (Mercer Lillian) Whayne Holcomb, 94. She was born Feb. 24, 1918, to Robert C. and Phena Ball Whayne in Bentonville, Ark., where she married Warren G. Holcomb in 1946. She worked as a house mother at Arkansas Childrenâ€™s Colony in Conway and was a seamstress all of her life, as well as a baby sitter for many families throughout the years. She was also a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.
Larry Dale Starr, 65, of Poteau, formerly of Montgomery City, Mo., died Monday, May 14, 2012, at Peachtree Hospice in Fort Smith, Ark.Â
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City.
Billy Jack Smith Jr., 50, Poteau, died Monday, May 14, 2012, in Poteau.
Anna Mae Smedley, 48, of Howe died Friday, May 12, 2012, in Tulsa. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m.. Saturday, May 17, at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, with Rev. Jim Cook officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.
Wendall L. Washington, 53, of Hodgen, died Saturday, May 12, 2012, in Poteau.
Wendall was born Sept. 18, 1958, in Lawton to Everett and Charlene Washington. A longtime area resident, he loved hunting and fishing and was a graduate of Heavener High School. He worked in the Parks Department for the City of Poteau. His father preceded him in death.
Elton Edward Thompson, 86, of Poteau died Saturday, May 12, 2012, in Poteau.
John Roger McCurdy, 67, of Cameron died Monday, May 7, 2012, in Cameron.Â He was born July 12, 1944, in Fort Worth, Texas.Â He was a production manager in the Aerospace Industry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene McCurdy and Dorothy Chloe (Brazil) Scoggins.
Robert â€śBobâ€ť Cooper, 46, of Spiro died Monday, May 7, 2012. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 11, in Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark.
Dan Vincent of Muse died Friday, May 4, 2012, in Talihina. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at the Muse Cemetery with Alex Barron officiating, under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.
Jimmy Don Scroggins, 66, of Shady Point died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at his home in Shady Point. Jimmy was born Nov. 7, 1945, in Oxnard, Calif., to Roy H and Ida Mae (Brookover) Scroggins.Â He was a heavy equipment operator.Â Jimmy was a Poteau High School graduate.Â He was a member of the Calhoun Baptist Church.Â Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Scroggins; and granddaughter, Summer VanMeter.Â He and Janice Monks were married Jan. 8, 1965.
