Esta Alice “Shorty” Pipkins

Esta Alice “Shorty” Pipkins, 95, of Pocola died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. Shorty was born June 21, 1916, in Pocola to John Eric and Gaitha (Tucker) Gregory. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andy; two sisters; two brothers; and two grandsons.

Shawna Jeanette Graham Beallis, 34, of Fort Smith, Ark., died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, in Fort Smith. Shawna was born Aug. 9, 1977, in Big Springs, Texas, to Lucky George and Teresa Cay (Davis) Graham. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse. Shawna was a loving mother, precious daughter and sister. She always had fun living life.

John Paul “JP” Richards, 86, of Fort Smith, Ark., formerly of Keota, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home, Spiro. Burial will be in Old Cache Cemetery, Keota, under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.

Billie Jean Burdick, 83, Spiro, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012. Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 7, at Mallory-Martin Chapel, Spiro. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.

Alice was born June 5, 1920, in Mason to Henry and Hazel (Jones) Snyder. She was a homemaker. Alice was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Freddy A. Goines, 55, of Pocola died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, in an area hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, in the Lewis Funeral Chapel, Fort Smith.

Lawrence Edward Clayton

January 5, 2012

Lawrence E. Clayton was born in Fort Coffee in 1927. He served in World War II and was a scout leader with Boy Scouts of America; he received the highest award for a scout leader to receive. Clayton was a Presbyterian Elder who loved the church and was also a Sunday School Teacher. He loved to sing and some of his favorite songs were “God is Able,” “One Day at a Time” and “Living Testimony.”
 He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Emma (McClish) Clayton; son Billy Wayne Clayton; three brothers and three sisters.

Bill Buttress

Bill Buttress, 82, Spiro, died Jan. 3, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. He was born July 15, 1929, at Shady Point to Luther James and Mary (Mulkey) Buttress. Bill was a cattleman and also retired from Riverside Furniture where he worked 33 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, “Jociel”; one son, Pete Buttress; one daughter ,Sandra Jean Buttress; and two brothers.
