Barbara Gillion, 69, of Spiro died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, in Fort Smith, Ark. She was born Oct. 8, 1943, in Fort Smith to Harold and Dorothy (Bodine) Hamilton. She was a bookkeeper, working at Robert S. Kerr Lock and Dam, Spiro Builders Inc. and C.A.R. Transport in Burleson, Texas. Barbara was a true blue Dallas Cowboys fan, she loved the University of Oklahoma Sooners and she was the first and only Miss Spiro.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gene Hamilton.
Pearl Roberta Bost, 76, of Poteau died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, in Fort Smith, Ark. Pearl was born June 21, 1936, in Poteau to Walter N. and Cleo V. (Collins) Durant. She was a homemaker. She also worked at McDonald’s in Walmart. Pearl was a member of Double Branch Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob Bost; and three brothers, Johnny George, Carl Willis and Walter Noah Durant.
George Harvey Urchison Sr., 94, of Howe died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, in Howe. He was born March 5, 1918, at Kaw City to George and Lucy Elizabeth (Richard) Urchison. He was a mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one, daughter Wanda Urchison; three brothers and two sisters.
Oweeta J. Carroll, 92, of Poteau died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, in Poteau. Oweeta was born Sept. 18, 1920, in Hon, Ark. to Frederick Washington and Ora Myrtle (Hicks) Newman. She worked in the county veterans office. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred J. Carroll; daughter, Dorothy J. Carroll; son, Billy Dean Carroll; grandson, Seth Goins; brother, Joe Paul Newman and his wife Lorene; sister, Mabel Woods and her husband J.D.; brother-in-law, Tom Peck; and sister-in-law, Mildred Newman.
Nova Armstrong, 93, of Poteau died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, in Poteau. Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Evans Chapel of Memories. Burial was in Spring-hill Cemetery, Monroe, under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home.
Mary Elizabeth Brookfelt, 78, of Wister died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, in Poteau. Mary was born Feb. 4, 1934, in Wister to Elmer E. and Selma D. (Shelton) Beason. She was a homemaker. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald Lee Brookfelt; sister, Geneva Armstrong and Jeanie Williams; brothers, Joe and Jack Beason.

Jeff Lee “Chief” Batt, 55, of Arkoma died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, in Fort Smith, Ark. He was born Feb. 7, 1957, at Tahlequah to Richard Lee and Josephine (Bendabout) Batt. He was a heavy equipment operator.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Laura Gooley.
Linda Sue Farwell, 60, of Spiro died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, in Fort Smith, Ark. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, in Shady Point Cemetery under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.
Betty Catherine Petefish, 76, of Van Buren, Ark., died Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, in Van Buren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan, 18, at Poteau Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Parsley officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Fort Smith (Ark.) National Cemetery under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.
