Elnora â€śEllyâ€ť Nickles, 89, of Poteau died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, in Heavener. Elly was born Feb. 4, 1925, in Poteau to J. â€śMittâ€ť and Lydia Jenson.
She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Poteau. To know Elly was to love her. She never met a stranger. She loved to talk and always had a joke to tell. She was a wonderful cook and had a reputation far and wide for her amazing homemade pies, bread, donuts and cookies. Elly had a great love for her family and missed Buck terribly. Her family takes comfort in knowing they are together again.
Katie A. Cantrell, 85, Overland Park, Kan., died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at Menorah Medical Center.Â
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Abundant Life Church, 12400 Antioch, Overland Park. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, Kan. Katieâ€™s family suggests memorial contributions to Abundant Life Church.
Vinuard Goins passed away at the age of 87 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a beloved father, papa, great papa, brother and friend.
He is survived by his sisters, Loretta McParland of Atwater Calif., Ruby Gregory, Kathleen Oleta Himes of Poteau; children, Evelyn Virginia Alcala of Cottonwood, Calif., Terrance Lee Goins of Palm Desert, Calif., and Rhonda June Doty of Roseville, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Bobby D. Cox of Howe passed away Jan. 8, 2015, at the age of 75. He was born Oct. 10, 1939, to Sherman Taft and Opal Nadine (Victor) Cox, in the small community of Independence.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Cox; one daughter, Candice Adkisson and husband Joel of Sapulpa; one son, Bobby Cox II and wife Jennifer of Howe; three sisters, Marilyn Arnett, Elaine Faulkenberry, Wanda Cox; two brothers, Kenneth Cox, Eugene Cox; two granddaughters, Wrigley Adkisson and Aniston Cox; two grandsons, Kinsler Cox and Picher Adkisson.
Richard Lee Kirkland, 60, of Shady Point died Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Richard was born June 13,1954 in Greenville, Calif., to Raymond F. and Dorothy Mae (Harris) Kirkland. He worked at Whirlpool.
Richard was preceded in death by his father.
Jean Goode, 71, of Talihina died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, in Tulsa. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, in the Talihina School Auditorium. Burial will be in Old Town Tuskahoma Cemetery under the direction of Burkhart Funeral Service, Talihina.
Nan (Remy) Pope, 50, of Spiro died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel with burial in New Hope Cemetery.
James Edward Moore, 56, of Poteau died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, in Poteau.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at New Beginnings Family Ministry in Poteau with the Rev. Don Martin officiating. Evans and Miller Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Emma Lee Skinner, 69, of Poteau died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, in Pocola.
Emma was born Sept. 15, 1945, in Fort Smith, Ark., to Orville and Wilma (McConnell) McCroskey. She worked many years as a convenience store manager. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bobby, Dinger and Eddie McCroskey; sister, Ann Marie McCroskey; sister-in-law, Leta McCroskey.
Nancy Jean Miller Neal, 68, of Poteau passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, in Poteau.
Nancy was born March 3, 1946, in Haileyville to Vernon William and Effie Evamae (Oldaker) Lilley. She was a homemaker.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; 1-year-old first-born son, Curtis Lee McClode; sisters, Rita Lilley, Millie Strosser; brother, Curtis Ray Lilley.
