James Archie “Jim” Miller

James Archie “Jim” Miller, 86, of Poteau died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, in Poteau. He was born Sept. 16, 1927, in Carter to Ray and Ida (Hill) Miller. Jim was a World War II veteran of Search and Rescue stationed in Newfoundland, a broiler and cattle farmer for OK Farms and a retired oil field consultant.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Ida Miller; brother, Bun Miller; sister, Melba Martin; and wife and loving companion, Mary “Betty” Heavener-Miller.

Joyce A. Minnis, 70, of Fort Smith, Ark., died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, in Fort Smith. She was born Dec. 18, 1943, in Panama to the late Otto and Mary Martin. She was a Baptist and a legal secretary. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy Martin.
Joyce is survived by her husband, John Minnis; her daughter, Jill Pierce of Panama; her son, Jody Henry of Norman; two sisters, Linda Brown and Donna Kendrick both of Poteau; two brothers, James Martin of Greenwood and Jack Martin of Shady Point; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Steven Coker, 49, of Antlers, formerly of Spiro died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, in New Hope Cemetery, Spiro, under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.

Ray Rush, 85, of Pocola died Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery, Pocola, under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.

Luveda Louise Earls

Luveda Louise Earls, 92, of Summerfield died Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, in Ponca City. Louise was born Jan. 10, 1922, in Reichert-Summerfield to John Christopher and Ora (White) Cox. She was a homemaker. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Earls; her parents; brothers, Orbria, Ivan, Dale, John Jr. and Harold Cox; sister, Reba Loyd.

Harrell James Vise

Harrell James Vise, 85, of Spiro died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark. Harrell was born Oct. 18, 1928, in Howe to Vernis and Audrey (Allen) Vise. He worked as street superintendent in Fort Worth, Texas. Harrell was a member of the Lakeview Baptist Church in Spiro. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Buddy.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, in Whitesboro Cemetery under the direction of Burkhart Funeral Service, Talihina

Virginia Gayle Twilla, 54, of Poteau, formerly of Heavener died Thursday, July 31, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date. Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener is handling arrangements.

Janice Laverne Abernathy, 72, of Bokoshe, died Thursday, July 31, 2014, in Bokoshe. Janice was born Sept. 13, 1941, in Bokoshe to Raymond Forrest and Pearl E. (Brown) Richardson. Janice was a loving wife, wonderful, caring mother and grandmother. She was willing to sacrifice anything for her children and family regardless of her plans or how she felt. Janice loved watching her children, grand and great-grandchildren play sports. She especially enjoyed family gatherings. She attended New Life Gospel Church in Panama.
