Bessie Smith

Bessie Smith, 85, of Panama died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, in Poteau,
Bessie was born Aug. 5, 1929, in Poteau to Roosevelt and Chloe (Brown) Oliver.
Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Joe Fitzer; her second husband, Bill Smith; an infant son, Bobby Fitzer; three brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by three daughters, Brenda Cook and husband Charles, Joy Moore and husband Don, Chloe House and husband Patrick; stepson, Joe M. Daniel and wife Donnell; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Anna Mae “Tootie” Alfred

Anna Mae “Tootie” Alfred, 87, of Poteau died Aug. 29, 2014, in Tulsa. Tootie was preceded in death by her husband, James Alfred of Poteau; her parents, Steve Sr. and Letha Garrett of Poteau; sister, Alma Taylor of Wilburton and brother, Steve Garrett Jr. of Poteau. Tootie, a lifetime resident of Poteau, was a homemaker. She was known for her beautiful table settings, her apricot brandy cake and her dependability when a friend was sick. Tootie loved a cold beer on a hot day, a good tenor voice and the Oklahoma Sooners. Her family celebrates her long, independent life.

Gerald Dee Wilson, 77, of Poteau died Aug. 29, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark. He was born Sept. 23, 1936 in Red Oak to James Howard and Bertha Lucille (Montgomery) Wilson. He was retired from Whirlpool Corp.
Gerald was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Cleo Wilson; two daughters, Laura Wilson and Joyce Mirus; four brothers James Wilson, Leonard Wilson, Joe Wilson and Bob Wilson

Allen Lynn Kinsey

Allen Lynn Kinsey, 57, of Howe, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, in Poteau. Allen was born Feb. 2, 1957, in Poteau to Abe and Billie Dean (Ladd) Kinsey. Allen was a beloved father, husband, brother and son; born and raised in Poteau. He worked most of his life as an oilfield driller and was an exceptional mechanic. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, James “Jim” Kinsey.

Mary Ellen Coomer

Mary Ellen Coomer, 70, of Cameron died Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark. She was born April 7, 1944, in Bonanza, Ark., to William Jennings and Lillian Fern (Stockdale) Jones. She was a homemaker.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jackie Jones and Paul Jones; a sister, Barbara King; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Raymond Lyle Hopkins

Raymond Lyle Hopkins, 64, of Spiro died Sunday, August 31, 2014 in Spiro.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau. Burial will be in Howe Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Evans and Miller Funeral Home.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Greenhill Cemetery Pavilion, Cameron, under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau.

Jerry Wayne Parnell, 69, of Pocola, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Evans Memorial Chapel in Pocola. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Pocola.

Frankie Thacker, 79, of Howe died Aug. 29, 2014, in Poteau. She was born Oct. 7, 1934, in Forrester to Bob and Alice (Baker) Harris. She was a homemaker and manager of a garment plant.

She is preceded in death by her parents.
