Bertha Alexander, 88 of Poteau, formerly of Farris died Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at Heavener.
Bertha was born Aug. 23, 1925, to John and Cora (Ethel) Bloyd in Darwin.
She attended school at Lone Pine and was a waitress. She married Lee Alexander on Aug. 13, 1943, at Atoka.
Bertha attended Monroe Baptist Church. She loved bowling, fishing, crocheting and crafts.
Florene â€śFloâ€ť Bowman of Heavener was born July 12, 1918, in Heavener to the late William Wallace Oliver and Sarah Melissa (Call) Oliver and departed this life on July 30, 2014 in Poteau at the age of 96.
She is survived by her daughters, Paula Fawn and Duncan Folino of Arroya Grandes, Calif., Betty Lou and Alexander Cooper of Poteau; daughter-in-law, Eva â€śBootieâ€ť Bullard Alexander; three grandchildren,
Mozelle Pearce, 90, of Talihina died Tuesday, July 29, 2014, in Poteau.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at Falfa Baptist Church with Carrol Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will be in Old Talihina Cemetery under the direction of Burkhart Funeral Service, Talihina.
U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. (Ret) James Laurel â€śDickâ€ť Dickson, 80, of Valdosta, Ga., passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 28, 2014, at South Georgia Medical Center.
Patsy Brooks, 86, of Bokoshe, died Monday, July 28, 2014, in Rogers, Ark. Patsy was born on July 21, 1928, in Tahona to Earl L. and Gladys (Young) Brown.
Stephen Lanier Hensley, 83, of Spiro died Tuesday, July 22, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Stephen was born on Oct. 20, 1930, in Brevard, N. C., to Floyd and Clara (Ducker) Hensley.
Stephen was a member of Victory Worship Center in Spiro and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. He retired from the U.S. Navy, serving his country for 20 years in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Stephen retired as sheriffâ€™s deputy and undersheriff for LeFlore County. He also was head of security at Blue Ribbon Downs.Â He loved his church family and enjoyed gardening, yard work and fishing.
Donald Gene Williams III, 18 months, of Arkoma died Monday, July 21, 2014, in Little Rock, Ark. Donald was born Jan. 17, 201,3 in Tulsa to Donald Gene Jr. and Elizabeth Francis Ann (Bennett) Williams. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and Shirley Bennett.
Survivors include his parents, Donald Jr. and Elizabeth Williams of the home; sisters, Jessica Caldera of the home, Kristina Ray Parris of Tulsa; grandparents, Donald Sr. and Zonia Williams of Arkoma; numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends; dog, LuLu.
Stephen Lanier Hensley, 83, of Spiro died Tuesday, July 22, 2014.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 25, at Victory Worship Center in Spiro. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
Amanda Dawn Potter, 39, of Panama died Saturday, July 19, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark. Amanda was born Dec. 31, 1974, in Fort Smith to Scott and Tommie Kay (Robison) Courtney. She was a homemaker.Â
Survivors include her daughters, McKalah Potter and Amberlea Potter of Clay, Ky.; mother and stepdad, Tommie Kay and David Carson of Panama; father and stepmother, Scott and Paula Courtney of Van Buren, Ark.; sisters, Saundra and Rikk Cardenas of Elk City, Misty and Stephen Beasley of Fort Smith; numerous other family members, loved ones and friends.
Frances (Ellis) Gibson
Frances (Ellis) Gibson, 98, of Wister died Friday, July 18, 2014, in Poteau. She was born Dec. 6, 1915, in Abbott, Ark. to Claud and Leafer Ellis. The family moved to Wister when Frances was a small child. She married Athel â€śSlimâ€ť Gibson on March 17, 1934. They were blessed with two sons. She was a homemaker until her boys started school, then became a licensed practical nurse. She retired as a surgical scrub and office nurse. Frances was a member of the Wister Nazarene Church. She was a Sunday school teacher, missionary president and taught Bible school.
