Thelma Mae Black Whitmore, 77, of Bokoshe died away Friday, March 8, 2013, in Bokoshe.
Thelma was born August 10, 1935 in Milton to Luther and Ina Grace (Painter) Nixon. She was a homemaker and a member of New Life Church in Panama. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Glen Black and William Whitmore; brothers, Robert, Vernon, Jodie and Jimmie; and sisters, Lelia, Irene, Jeanita and Oteka.
Therral Ray McConnell, 74, of Poteau died Friday, March 8, 2013, in Poteau. Therral was born Oct. 16, 1938, in Paris, Ark., to Lewis and Sarah McConnell. He owned and operated McConnell Furniture Mfg. and McConnell Construction. He was a loving husband, Dad and Papa. He loved life, hunting, and storytelling. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Irene; brothers, Albert and Orville.Â
Joe Underwood, 76, of Panama died Thursday, March 7, 2013. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 11, at First Assembly of God in Spiro. Burial will be in Spiro City Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
Kenneth Wayne Anderson, 80, of Summerfield died Thursday, March 7, 2013, in Talihina. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 11, at First Southern Baptist Church in Heavener. Burial will be in Summerfield Cemetery under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home.
Harold Starbuck, 78, of Talihina died Wednesday, March 6, at home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 11, at the Lenox Christ Church.Â Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, at Shattuck Memorial Cemetery in Shattuck, under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.
Betty Ruth McFatridge, 27, of Panama died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, in Fort Smith, Ark.Â Services will be held at 10 am, Saturday, March 9, at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau. Burial will be in Shady Point Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Evans and Miller Funeral Home.Â
Charlotte Gayle Stewart, 61, of Wister died Wednesday, March 6, in Tulsa. Charlotte was born June 28, 1951, in Fanshawe to Paul Wesley and Dorothy Lou (Byrd) Watkins. She was a pharmacist. Charlotte was preceded in death by her father; and grandson, Wesley Shearer of Oklahoma City.
Audry Sampson, 91, of Poteau died Monday, March 4, 2013, in Fort Smith, Ark.Â Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at First Baptist Church in Poteau. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home.
Ray Robert Stock, 87, of Talihina died Feb. 17, 2013, at his home in No Name Acres.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 8, at Fort Smith National Cemetery under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home. A memorial dinner will be served at 4 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Poteau.
Benjamin Lawrence Montoya, 92, of Poteau died Sunday, March 3, 2013 in Poteau. Ben was born Feb. 6, 1921 in Colorado Springs, Colo., the seventh son of Thomas Daniel and Mary Louisa (Gutierrez) Montoya. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers. As an infant Ben moved to Ventura, Calif., where he attended grade school, high school and college. During WWII he worked in the CCC and in an airplane factory in Los Angeles. There he met and married Wilma Gardenia Sparks in 1945. To this marriage was born two children, Mary Amelia and Benjamin Lawrence Jr.
