Laura â€śCharleneâ€ť King, 81, of Poteau, formerly of Heavener, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Dowden Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Heavener.
Walter Joe Cheely, 85, of Chino, Calif., died Nov. 12, 2012, in Chino.
Walter was born Oct. 5, 1927, in Shady Point to James and Maybelle (Foote) Cheely. He served two tours of duty in the U.S. Navy in Italy and Guam. He was a 1946 graduate of Poteau High School. He got his BA at Northeastern and later obtained his masterâ€™s degree. Walter taught school for two years at Fox, 10 years at Derby, Kan., and 30 years in California. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Charlene Stanley.
Ruth Wilson, 79, of Poteau died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Ruth was born July 6, 1933, in Glendale to Wilburn Perry and Ida Mae (Balentine) Glenn. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Poteau. She was a retired hair dresser. The love of Ruthâ€™s life was the Special Olympics and the Democratic Party. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Lawrence, Loren, Cecil, John, Oscar and Fred; and son, Jerry Bob Thompson.
Malinda Scott, 88, of Spiro died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012.
Services will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 8, at Spiro First Baptist Church with burial in Fort Coffey Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
Ruth Agnes Forehand, 94, of McAlester died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, in McAlester. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Dowden Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Patey â€śPateâ€ť Thornburg passed away in the wee hours of December 2, 2012, after 97 years of a full and loving life.
He was born on June 9, 1915, in Fanshawe. An avid fisherman, there wasnâ€™t a body of water he wouldnâ€™t fish. He was full of love and faith for his fellow man. His belief in our heavenly father was soul deep and an integral part of how he lived his life. Pate was a beloved and accomplished educator for 32 years. He spent most all of his educational career as a teacher and principal at Rail Road Flat Elementary School.
Jimmy Dale Hill, 67, of Wister died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Jimmy was born Oct. 6, 1945, in Oklahoma City to Thurman and Jewel (Killian) Hill. He worked for the street department of the city of Modesto. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Evelyn Earhart and brother, Bill Hill.Â
Survivors include his son, Mike Hill of Turlock, Calif.; grandson, Davis Hill of Turlock; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Marvel Hill of Wister; longtime companion, Leona Sherry; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones.
Weldon Frieling, 70, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, in Buffalo Valley. Services were held Monday, Dec. 3, at the Talihina Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glenn Meyer officiating.Â Burial was in the Laura-McGee Cemetery.
Anthony Lynn Hill was born on May 3, 1984, in Weatherford, Texas, and died Nov. 30, 2012. He attended school in Weatherford until he moved to Stamford, Texas. He graduated from high school in Stamford in May 2003. He moved to Oklahoma in 2004 and worked in the oil fields.
Survivors include his parents, Bradley and Melissa Bean of Arkoma; his fiancĂ©, Shelby Fox of Clarksville, Ark.; grandparents, Charles and Sue Plowman of Poteau; great-grandmother, LaNelle McBride of Weatherford.
Helen L. Moore, 99, of Poteau died Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, in Poteau.
Helen was born Aug. 19, 1913, in Coalgate to John and Elizabeth (Fisher) Wood. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Poteau. She and Troy James Moore were married Aug. 25, 1933, in Talihina. She was preceded in death by Troy Nov. 4, 1982; her parents; daughter, Phyllis Ann Moore; great-granddaughter, Angela; siblings,Â Annie May Wood, John Fisher Wood, Margaret G.
