Doyle Kenneth â€śKenâ€ť Moore, 74, of Sallisaw died Thursday, July 12, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. Ken was born April 17, 1938, in Spiro to Andrew Cleveland and Nancy (Smith) Moore. He was an upholstery instructor at Northside High School in Fort Smith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Hollis Leslie Gassaway Jr., 67, ofÂ Fort Smith, Ark., died Thursday, July 5, 2012, in Fort Smith.Â Hollis was born April 12, 1945, in McAlester to Hollis Sr. and Novella (Phipps) Gassaway. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Hollis was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Shirley Besoyan.
Survivors include his daughter, Phyllis Ann Gassaway of California; sons, Douglas and Virginia Gassaway of Blum, Texas, Treavor Gassaway of Roland; uncles and aunts, Lucian and Sue Gassaway of Monroe, and Clinton and Barbara Phipps Gassaway.
Private services will be held at a later time.
Aaron Malachi Ridenour, 78, of Poteau died Thursday, July 12, 2012, in Poteau. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at the First United Methodist Church, Poteau, under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home.
Roger Rose Jr., 43, of Fort Smith, Ark., died July 10, 2012, in Fort Smith.Â A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Fort Smith.Â Cremation services are under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau.
James Harlan Long, 83, of Spiro died Sunday, July 1, 2012. No services are planned. Information submitted by Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
Gary W. Ford, 45, of Hartford, Ark., died Friday, July 6, 2012, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born Sept. 17, 1966, in Fort Smith. He is preceded in death by his father, Wayne Ford. Gary was a member of a home fellowship, a member and president of the Hartford School Board, a member of the Hartford Athletic Booster Club, a lifelong volunteer in the Hartford Schoolâ€™s athletic program and an Eagle Scout.
Lindall Lee Castor, 77, of Poteau died Saturday, July 7, 2012, in Poteau. Lindall was born May 17, 1935 in Weatherby, Mo., to Lee Kenneth and Julia Bell (Lincoln) Castor. He was retired from the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department where he proudly served for 30 years. Lindall was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He and his wife have been residents of Poteau for three years. Lindall had fought lung cancer for a year, and had made progress, but the cancer spread to his brain. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ruby Tamplin, 88, of Poteau died Saturday, July 7, 2012, in Poteau.
Ruby was born April 14, 1924, in Bluffton, Ark., to BenÂ and Nica (Evans) Markham.Â She was a homemaker.Â She was preceded in death by her husband, Port Tamplin; stepson, Millard Tamplin;Â grandson, Edwin Boyce Liles; and granddaughter, Brandy Gail LeForce.
Winford â€śSpudâ€ť Chandler, 73 of Poteau died Saturday, July 7, 2012, in Poteau.
Winford was born Sept. 27, 1938 in Poteau to W.S. and Ethel (Gassaway) Chandler.Â Winford was an outstanding athlete, even obtaining a full-ride baseball scholarship to Oklahoma State University. After graduating from OSU, Winford took his first job as a successful baseball and basketball coach for the Fort Leonard Wood-Waynesville School System. There he led the Tigers for the next eight years.
David Arnold Russell, 85, ofÂ Beckville, Texas,Â formerly of Poteau, died Friday, July 6, 2012, in Carthage, Texas.Â
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 12, at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau.Â Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home.
