Ray Vermillion

August 30, 2011

Ray Vermillion, 73, of Wister died Sunday, Aug. 28,
2011, in Poteau. Ray was born in Whiteface, Texas, on
Dec. 20, 1937, to Holley L. and Vinita (Stroud) Vermillion.
He was a realtor. Ray was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife Cecelia of the home; daughter,
Jean Morris of Ratliff City; son and daughter-in-law,
Dennis and Lisa Vermillion of Wister; three grandchildren,
Shelby Hill, Monty Hill and Sara Vermillion; brother,
Marvin Vermillion of Austin, Texas; numerous nieces,
nephews, other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Eugene Travis Boyer

August 30, 2011

Eugene Travis Boyer of Muskogee (formerly
of Poteau) died Saturday, Aug. 27,
2011, in Muskogee.
Gene was born Oct. 14 in Parma, Mo.,
to Otto Chester and Stella Pearl (Carylile)
Boyer. He spent his career as a retail manager
for Walmart and C.R. Anthony’s and
was a partner in D&D Pharmacy in Poteau
and Fort Smith, Ark. He was preceded in death by his
wife, Betty. Gene was a 57-year member of the Poteau
Masonic Lodge. Gene was a veteran of the U.S. Army and
attended First Baptist Church in Poteau. His passion was
bowling.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and

Jack Claude "J.C." Kuykendall

Jack Claude “J.C.” Kuykendall, 78, of
Wister died Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, in
Poteau. J.C. was born Sept. 3, 1932, in Red
Oak to Jesse Herman and Effie (Pulley)
Kuykendall. He was a car salesman. J.C.
was preceded in death by his parents; his
first wife of 44 years, Ruby Marie Harmon;
sons, Carroll and Ronnie Kuykendall; and
brother, Larry Kuykendall.
Survivors include his wife, Esther of the home; sons,
Jerry Kuykendall, Terry Kuykendall and Claude Kuykendall
of California, Gary Henson of Missouri; daughters, Shirley
Thomas of Lodi, Calif., Marie Ford of Norman, Vernoyise

Ruby Mae Webb

August 30, 2011

Ruby Mae Webb, 93, of Poteau died
Aug. 28, 2011, in Poteau. She was born
June 23, 1918, in Poteau to Harmon and
Callie (Coggins) Davis. She was a homemaker
and a member of the Calvary
Assembly of God Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents;
her first husband and father of her
children, W. Leo Webb, and second husband, John Baldwin;
and a son, Bob Webb.
Ruby is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law,
Winford Webb and wife Sharon of Poteau, Roger Webb
and wife Kaye of Broken Arrow; daughter-in-law Jo Ann
Webb of Gans; a brother, Floyd Davis and wife Beverly of

Monte “Bud” Hale

August 30, 2011

Monte “Bud” Hale, 59, of Panama died Aug. 24, 2011.
Services will be conducted Saturday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m.
at Royal Oak Cemetery, Cameron.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mallory-
Martin Funeral Home, Spiro.

Frank Ham Jr.

August 30, 2011

Frank Ham Jr. was born in Chickasha to
Homer and Lorene (Hillis) Ham. He died
surrounded by his family on Aug. 24, 2011
in Panama. He was 71.
Frank had a strong love for his family
and an extra special place in his heart for
his many great-grandchildren. He had a
special bond with each of them and was
happiest when he was spoiling the babies.
He spent this last year doing just what he
loved, spending time with his family and
breaking horses, which he had an extra
special talent for. Anyone that watched him
with horses would see that he had an

Jackie Maxey Blount of Poteau died
Friday, Aug. 19, 2011 in Fort Smith, Ark.
Jackie was born in Cedars to Walter and
Jewel Salequa (Hardaway) Maxey. Jackie
was retired from OG&E. She was preceded
in death by her parents; three brothers,
Walter Maxey Jr., Bill Maxey and Cled
Maxey; and her husband, Pete.
Survivors include her daughter and sonin-
law, Salequa and Bob Beams of Greenwood, Ark.; two
grandchildren, Barry Beams
of Greenwood, Kori Beams

Anna Lou Burgess, 78, of
Poteau died Saturday, Aug. 20,
2011, in Poteau.
Anna Lou was born Oct.
11, 1932 to Clovis and Winnie
(Plummer) Neff.
Services were held Monday,
Aug. 22, at Southside Baptist
Church, Poteau.
Interment was in Oakland
Cemetery, Poteau, with
arrangements under the direction
of Evans and Miller
Funeral Home, Poteau.

August 19, 2011

Bobbie Jean (Abernathy) Bell, 52, of
Bokoshe died Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, in
Fort Smith, Ark.
Bobbie was born Dec. 20, 1958, in
Poteau to Jim Bob and Janice Laverne
(Richardson) Abernathy Jr. Bobbie worked
for the LeFlore County Assessor for 14
years.
Survivors include her husband, Mike of the home;
daughters and sons-in-law, Misty and Joe Walker of
Bokoshe, Britney and Jansen Hambright of Spiro; son and
daughter-in-law, Michael and Brittany Bell of Cameron;
five grandsons, Hayden Bell, Trenton Massey, Cameron
Massey, Coby Bell and Tanner Hambright; her parents,
