Olen Wesley Heflin, 82, of Wister died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, in Fort Smith, Ark. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, at First Baptist Church in Wister with burial in Maxey Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Evans and Miller Funeral Home in Poteau.
Donna Elliott, 60, of Cameron died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, in Fort Smith, Ark.
She was born April 18, 1954, at Kansas City, Kan., to Lee L. and Dorothy G. (Bennett) Shannon. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Donna was foremost a homemaker, however she had many talents and had worked in a variety of jobs over the years.
She was a dental assistant, the friendly face who checked you out at M&M Garden Center and she worked for the OSU Extension Service, to name a few. She was a member of Eastern Star, Belle Point Quilt Guild and OHCE.
David Alan Hall, 41, of Wister died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, in Tulsa.
No service is scheduled at this time. Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau is handling arrangements.Â
Donnie Lee James, 66, of Heavener died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, in Heavener. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at New Talihina Cemetery under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.
Edgar Lewis Cookson-Guinn, 86, of Keota died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, in Spiro. Edgar was born Feb. 4, 1928, in Antlers to Andrew Davis and Vanita (Brigance) Cookson. Edgar was a mechanic for Bob Smedley.
He was preceded by his sisters, Corrina and Josie; son, Allen Guinn; and stepfather, Edgar Guinn, the man who raised him.
Eldwin Bryant, 61, of Kinta died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, in Fort Smith, Ark. He was born Jan. 3, 1954, in McAlester to Frank and Loeta (Powell) Bryant.
Eldwin worked at local coal mines many years before going to work at Fort Howard/Georgia Pacific in the shipping department. Although he had been unable to work since February 2014, he officially retired in November 2014 due to a prolonged illness.
Margie Lee Allen. 88, of Poteau died Dec. 26, 2014.
Stan L. Cottrell Sr., 65, of Arkoma died Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at his home after a valiant battle with cancer.
He was born to Ernest and Emily Cottrell in Fayetteville, Ark., on July 11, 1949. He was of the Presbyterian faith. He was a good friend to many, always ready to help others and never expecting anything in return. He was a graduate of Waldron High School in 1967 and the College of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark. He held a Masters in Education Degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah.
Carl Piersant, 86, of Howe died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, in his home. He was born Oct. 6, 1928, in Youngstown, Ohio, to John and Josephine (Magdalena) Piersant.
He was a veteran of both the U.S. Air Force and Army. Carl was a member of the Heavener VFW, Poteau DAV and Heavener American Legion Post. He was a very active member of Immaculate Conception Church of Poteau where he loved to serve the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Ruby Piersant; brother, Pat Piersant; and three grandchildren.
Frances Ferrell Gray, 94, of Pocola died Friday, Jan. 23, 2015 in Fort Smith, Ark.
Frances was born Jan. 23, 1921, to Elvis and Jennie (Ramsey) Cruson. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pocola. She played the piano. She worked at McKesson Wholesale Drug. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Ella Jane Reaves; and sister, Alice Marie.
Survivors include her son-in-law, George Reaves of Pocola; grandson, Britt Reaves of Pocola; great-grandchildren, Hayden and Alyssa; other relatives, loved ones and friends.
