FORT GIBSON — In a game that was about as back and forth as one could get, it was the Poteau Pirates who came out on the short end of the stick in Friday night's District 4A-4 road game against the Fort Gibson Tigers.
After 70 points were put up in the first half, 85 points were added in the second half. But the bad news for the Pirates was that three more of those points were put up by the Tigers as they outlasted the Pirates 59-56.
PANAMA — The Panama Razorbacks came out for the second straight week and played a tough game against another county team.
But unlike last week's victory over archrival Pocola, in the end, this week it wasn't enough.
The Heavener Wolves would take home the victory in the fourth quarter by a final score of 28-14 in a crucial District 2A-6 contest Friday night at George Ollie Stadium.
ARKOMA — The Arkoma Mustangs took care of busines quickly Friday night at Mustang Field, mercy ruling the Bokoshe Tigers 46-0 with just over three minutes left in the first half.
SPIRO — The Spiro Bulldogs kept their slim playoff hopes alive Friday night as they defeated the Atoka Wampus Cats 23-7 in their home finale at McClain Stadium.
TALIHINA — There will not be any postseason games this season for the Talihina Golden Tigers.
The Golden Tigers ended their home regular season with a heartbreaking 27-21 loss to the Hartshorne Miners Friday night at Doc Robinson Stadium.
The Pansy Kidd Middle School eighth-grade football team wrapped up a perfect 7-0 season with a 24-0 win over the Fort Gibson Tigers on a rainy, cold Thursday night at Costner Stadium.
But the Poteau freshmen and PKMS seventh-graders suffered losses. The Pirate freshmen lost 22-16, while the seventh-graders fell 24-0.

Last week, the Poteau Pirates essentially won a playoff-like contest. They celebrated Senior Night last week with a 31-23 win over one of their nemeses, the Broken Bow Savages. The win kept the Pirates (4-4, 2-3 in District 4A-4) alive in the playoff hunt.
Last week saw one LeFlore County rivalry on the football field with Panama visiting Pocola. Tonight, another one will take place.
The Bokoshe Tigers will visit the Arkoma Mustangs for a 7:30 p.m. District C-4 contest tonight.
The Mustangs (7-1, 4-1 in district play) lost for the first time last week, dropping a 84-38 decision to Webbers Falls.
Earlier this year, not too many football prognosticators were not thinking that the Heavener Wolves and the Panama Razorbacks would be in line for the Class 2A playoffs — but they are.
Both teams will meet at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Panama's George Ollie Stadium for their playoff lives in a crucial District 2A-6 contest.
Last year, the Spiro Bulldogs made it all the way to the Class 3A state quarterfinals in the 2010 playoffs. If they hope to see the 2011 playoffs, they must win out — beginning tonight.
The ’Dogs (3-5, 2-3 in District 3A-8) will play their home regular-season finale at 7:30 p.m. tonight at McClain Stadium against the Atoka Wampus Cats (4-4, 1-4).
“We have to win out to have a chance to get in,” Spiro Coach Chris Bunch said. “Even if we win out, we still may not get in. But we definitely have to win out to have a chance.”
