Heavener running back glad to experience playoffs

November 11, 2011

HEAVENER — At this time a year ago, the Heavener Wolves had checked in their football equipment since the 2010 season ended at Week 10. That's not the case this year.
The Wolves finished fourth in District 2A-6 to make the playoffs, which makes junior running back Blake Smittle a happy camper.
“It feels good,” Smittle said. “It's the first time for me to be in the playoffs. It's a new experience for most of us. I'm excited for it. I'm ready.”

November 11, 2011

HEAVENER — One goal the Heavener Wolves set out to accomplish this 2011 football season was to make the playoffs — and they did.
“You can never overlook the first game (of the season), and all the way up to the last game,” Heavener Coach John Thompson said. “You just have to take them one game at a time. We're one of those teams that made it. We got an extra week of practice. We made the playoffs, and that's a plus right there.”

November 10, 2011

Last weekend, my buddy Dan Carter of “Captain Dan’s SEOK Expeditions” took Koby and me down to a place he has hunted for several years in the national forest near Billy Creek. We went down Thursday and did some scouting, so we would know what tree to put our climbers in.
Dan dropped Koby and me off, and headed to another spot that he had picked out for himself. We got in out stands before daylight and were ready for the day — well, I thought we were ready. I soon realized that I had not worn enough clothing.
