If you want to see a lot of the LeFlore County high school basketball teams in action before Christmas Break, this will be your last week to do so.
After this week, things will be pretty limited on the hardwood until after the calendar has hit 2012.
Below is the slate of games for the rest of this week. One tournament is taking place this week as the Howe teams and the Poteau High School junior varsity teams are playing in the Wilburton Tournament Thursday through Saturday.
LeFlore County JH Tournament Team Photos, Rosters Needed
Behind a 42-26 second half, the Paris (Texas) Junior College Dragons won 71-58 over the Carl Albert State College Vikings Saturday night at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
Despite having three players scoring in double figures, the Lady Vikings lost 75-57 to the 18th-ranked Paris Lady Dragons in the first game on Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings will open the second half of their 2011-12 season at 7 p.m. Jan. 6 against West Plains, Mo., then will play Whiteman (Mo.) Air Force Base at 5 p.m. Jan. 7 in the New Years Classic in West Plains, Mo.
GREENWOOD, Ark. â€” The Poteau High School basketball teams had rough finishes to their action at the H.B. Stewart Classic. The Pirates lost 45-36 to Ozark, Ark., on Saturday after losing 54-45 Friday to host Greenwood.
The Lady Pirates suffered also ended with a pair of losses in the Classic, losing 55-40 to Ozark and 68-35 to Greenwood.
Poteau Lady Pirates center Colleen Peterson was named to the All-Tournament Team.
TALIHINA â€” The Talihina Lady Golden Tigers capped this past week's trio of games in the Choctaw Nation Tournament by winning the title game 41-26 over the Antlers Lady Bearcats Saturday night at Ray Henson Gymnasium.
The Lady Golden Tigers (4-0) got to the title game by winning Friday night's semifinal game 25-18 over Rattan, which ended up losing the third-place game Saturday night 51-13 to Sallisaw-Central.
WILBURTON â€” Two LeFlore County high school basketball teams won championships in the Eastern Oklahoma State College Tournament on Saturday.
In the Blue Tournament, the Cameron Yellowjackets and the Bokoshe Lady Tigers brought home the gold. The â€™Jackets beat the Leflore Savages 48-43 in overtime, while the Lady Tigers defeated the Panola Lady Bearcats 36-33 â€” also in OT â€” Saturday night at EOSC's Claud C. Dunlap Fieldhouse.
One other team, the Whitesboro Bulldogs, lost the Gold Tournament title game 70-48 to the Red Oak Eagles.
PORUM â€” The Panama High School basketball teams split their third-place games in the Greenleaf Invitational Tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Razorbacks defeated Braggs 45-40 in overtime after losing 38-27 in Friday's championship semifinals against Oaks.
The Razorbacks suffered a third-place game loss to Kinta as the Eagles prevailed 55-34. In Friday's championship semifinals, the Hogs lost 49-22 to Gore.
ARKOMA â€” On what will likely end up being the final day of the final Arkoma Classic, the Arkoma High School basketball teams split their games with Mansfiled, Ark.
The Lady Mustangs scored late to down Mansfield 53-51, but the Mustangs lost 51-26.
This past weekend's Arkoma Classic will likely be the last one because beginning next season there will be the first-ever Green Valley Conference Tournament â€” thus, taking the place of the Classic for the Arkoma teams.
MUSKOGEE â€” The Heavener High School basketball teams suffered losses in Saturday's consolation championship games of the Hilldale Tournament.
The Wolves lost 37-33 to Grove, while the Lady Wolves fell 57-43 to Vian.
Both Heavener teams posted their first wins of the season in Friday's consolation semifinals. The Wolves knocked off Morris 62-42, while the Lady Wolves handled the Morris junior varsity 49-39.
OKMULGEE â€” Five Talihina High School wrestlers placed in last week's Okmulgee Tournament.
Jasper Humphreys (106 pounds) and Andrew Young (160) were runners-up.
Derek Lester was fourth at 113 pounds, while Dylan Chancellor (195 pounds) and Jed Martin (heavyweight) were fifth.
