Oklahoma Elite bumped into World Series loser's bracket with Friday morning loss

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The Oklahoma Elite softball team is now facing elimination every time it takes the field from here on at the 2011 World Series.
A day after posting a comeback victory, the Elite had the same thing done to it. Trailing 4-2, Nemesis 16 Gold from Lincoln, Neb., rallied to down the Elite 5-4 Friday morning.
The loss dropped the Elite into the loser's bracket, with the first elimination game slated for 8 a.m. this morning. The Elite must win five games today to survive to see action on Sunday.

Talihina basketball duo play one last game together; Lockhart, EagleRoad play in All-State Game

TULSA — Thursday night closed a chapter in life which was dear to both Talihina Golden Tiger basketball players Taggart Lockhart and Jordan EagleRoad. The local duo played together in their final high school basketball game, so to speak.
Lockhart and EagleRoad played for the Small East in Thursday night's Oklahoma Coaches Association Small School All-State Basketball Game at the Oral Roberts University Mabee Center.

Can you believe it? The 2011 fall high school fast-pitch softball and fall baseball seasons are just around the corner, beginning Aug. 9.
With a year of being sports editor of The Poteau Daily News, I've learned how, at least I think so, to make things a little easier on everyone — myself, the coaches and the teams.
Since there's the annual Panama Preseason Softball Tournament the weekend prior to the fast-pitch season getting started, I figured when this year's version rolled around I would use it to my advantage.

Oklahoma Elite suffers first loss at World Series, but still wins its pool

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The bad news Wednesday afternoon for the Oklahoma Elite softball team was it suffered its first loss in the 2011 World Series. But the good news was the Elite still won its pool-play division.
The Elite lost a heart-breaking 1-0 game to the Wichita (Kan.) Impact at Mid-America Sports Complex in its final pool-play division game.

Elite wins first two pool play games at World Series

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — In a pair of games completely opposite of each other, the Oklahoma Elite softball team was able to win both ways to open action in the 2011 World Series Tuesday morning at Blue Valley Sports Complex.
The Elite handled Lees Summit, Mo., 9-1 in a five-inning, run-rule game, but had to rally from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Minnesota Chill 4-2 to go 2-0 so far in pool-play action.
The Elite played its third game of pool play Wednesday afternoon against the Wichita (Kan.) Impact at Mid-America Sports Complex.

Talihina duo in Small School All-State Basketball Game tonight; Spiro football players added to East team

Two LeFlore County basketball players will get one last chance to compete in a high-school atmosphere setting tonight.
Talihina's Taggart Lockhart and Jordan EagleRoad will represent the Golden Tigers and the county in the 2011 Oklahoma Coaches Association Small School Boys Basketball Game at 7 p.m. tonight at the Oral Roberts University Mabee Center.

Hunting season is just around the corner

Hunters can log on to wildlifedepartment.com Website to view the newest version of the “Oklahoma Hunting Guide,” which provides regulations for the 2011-12 hunting seasons.
This year, the guide is a 62-page full-color magazine style book. It features a wide range of hunting-related articles and other helpful information, such as sunrise/sunset tables, game meat processors, game warden listings and detailed information on the state’s wildlife management areas.
