Since this is the last in a long line of Poteau-Hilldale games, the Hornets were always known as a 3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust kind of team. Poteau Coach Jeff Broyles commented earlier in the week how Hilldale quarterback Dalton Cunningham was similar to former Florida Gator QB Tim Tebow for his running prowess. Cunningham might well be, but without a doubt his strong right arm was what dismantled the Poteau Pirates in their District 4A-4 opener Friday night at Costner Stadium.
Cunningham threw four touchdown passes of 99, 80, 33 and 67 yards as the Hornets stung the Pirates 42-16.
ARKOMA — The Arkoma Mustangs, led by quarterback Christian Davis, defeated the Bluejacket Chieftains 44-18 Friday night in a District C-4 contest.
BOKOSHE — It was a dramatic finish, but the Bokoshe Tigers won their first game of the season as well as for new coach, Tyler Massey, as they held on to knock off Eagle Point Christian Academy 48-42 Friday night.
ANTLERS — The Talihina Golden Tigers continue to roll on. They routed the Antlers Bearcats 41-6 Friday night in their final non-District 2A-6 contest of the year.
HEAVENER — The Hartshorne Miners made sure it was not going to be a Happy Homecoming for the Heavener Wolves Friday night at Harvey Stadium in the District 2A-6 opener for both teams.
After a close first half, the Miners pulled away for a 41-25 win over the Wolves.
PANAMA — The Wilburton Diggers spoiled the 2011 Homecoming festivities for the Panama Razorbacks Friday night at George Ollie Stadium by posting a 28-7 victory.
POCOLA — After last week's devastating injury to quaterback Devon Johnson, the Pocola Indians knew they faced a tough test against Vian for Homecoming.
That's just what they got, a 75-6 drubbing at the hands of the Wolverines in the District 2A-6 opener for both teams Friday night at John Carter Field.
