The postseason has arrived for the Poteau High School cross-country teams as they will run at the Class 4A Regional Meet, which will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa.
The top seven teams will automatically qualify for the Class 4A State Meet, which will begin at 10 a.m. Oct. 27 at Edmond Santa Fe High School.
HEAVENER — The dream of any senior high school athlete is to get to state, or play for a state championship. Heavener High School senior cross-country runner Jose Farias has that opportunity Saturday morning.
Farias will be the lone Heavener Wolf to run at the Class 3A State Meet, which will begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. at Shawnee's Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech Center.
Farias qualified for state at last weekend's Class 3A Regional Meet in Henryetta. He strongly believed that his time of 18:49 was going to be good enough to earn him an individual berth to this morning's state meet.
SPIRO — In a battle of Bulldogs Thursday night at McClain Stadium, it was LeFlore County's ’Dogs who had more growl.
Spiro routed the Valliant Bulldogs 42-13 in a District 3A-8 contest to run their winning streak to four games.
TALIHINA — The Talihina Golden Tigers started early as usual, and disposed of the visiting Haileyville Warriors in the first quarter in a District A-6 contest Thursday night at Doc Robinson Stadium.
Statistics in rushing and defense were scattered among first-stringers and subs, eventually piling up to a 56-0 victory over the winless Warriors.
ARKOMA — Decimated by injuries and a recent sickness that hit the school this week, the Arkoma Mustangs faced the Thackerville Wildcats Thursday night at Mustang Field in a District C-4 contest. Thackerville pulled away at halftime, mercy ruling the Mustangs 64-18.
STIGLER — After a strong finish to last week's loss against the Spiro Bulldogs, the Heavener Wolves were hoping some of that momentum would follow them into Haskell County Thursday night in their Distric 3A-8 contest with the Stigler Panthers. Unfortunately for them, it didn't.
The Panthers dominated the Wolves in a 54-7 victory to do major damage to Heavener's playoff hopes.
All year long, the Poteau Pirates football team wanted to be more physical in its offensive line, and in Thursday night's District 4A-4 contest against the Muldrow Bulldogs at Costner Stadium, the offensive line had its coming out party.
HUGO — All that matters is who is leading when the final horn goes off. Just ask the Panama Razorbacks.
The Hogs scored with 21 seconds to go in the game to rally to down the Hugo Buffaloes 21-20 Thursday night in District 2A-6 action.
POCOLA — The Pocola Indians football team was on the end of a 40-0 shutout last Friday night against the Hartshorne Miners. They made amends for that Thursday night at John Carter Field.
The Indians had little problems in handling the Antlers Bearcats, winning 43-6 in District 2A-6 action.
