STILLWATER — There was an invasion of LeFlore County high school cross country runners on the campus of Oklahoma State University on Saturday as the Poteau and Heavener high school teams competed at the OSU Jamboree.
In the Class 4A girls' division, the Lady Pirates came in 20th with 499 points. Canyon, Texas, won the girls' team title with 64 points.
The season is half over for the Poteau Pirates, and they have posted a record of 4-1. They will have a very difficult game against the Fort Gibson Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Costner Stadium for homecoming.
LeFlore County is down to three teams on the diamond for the fall of 2012, with two of those at state tournaments this week.
The Panama Lady Razorbacks fast-pitch softball team will have a chance to defend its Class 2A state title, while the Wister Wildcats baseball team made state for the sixth straight season — dating back to the spring of 2010 — as they made it to the Class A Fall State Tournament for the third straight season.
Carl Albert State College Assistant Softball Coach Megan Young will give softball lessons at $25 per hour to girls up through age 18.

Sunday Couple Scrambles at Wolf Ridge Golf Course will take place at 2 p.m. Sundays.

There will be a coed kids softball tournament all day Saturday in Wister.
STILLWATER — When you think about cowboys and longhorns, images of the wild west are bound to enter the mind. When thinking about the wild west, there's also gunfights and shootouts which also come to mind.
Saturday night at Boone Pickens Stadium, when the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns did battle in the Big 12 opener for both teams, it was exactly that — a shootout. In the end, Texas fired the last shot to defeat OSU by a score of 41-36.
