The 2012 Poteau Football Banquet, which took place Friday night at the Bob Lee Kidd Civic Center, was not your ordinary football banquet. For one thing, the guest speaker was a Steve Edwards, Glenpool's football coach. As Greg Werner, Poteau's first-year coach, introduced the speaker, he made known to the crowd that Edwards handed him two losses while at Broken Bow, one in the Class 4A state semifinals and the other in the state title game.
WARNER â€” Talihina started slow, which is not normal for the Golden Tigers, but they parlayed a couple of late scores and rock solid defense to hand the Warner Eagles their first defeat of the season by the score of 29-8 in a Class A second-round playoff game Friday night.
The Golden Tigers (11-1) will entertain the Cashion Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. next Friday at Doc Robinson Stadium in the Class A state quarterfinals.

Two years ago, it was a fumble near the goal line in the waning seconds that doomed the Golden Tigers in the Class 2A second-round playoff loss to Colcord at Doc Robinson Stadium.
So, not only will there be one more week of high school football in the county, but that game will take place in LeFlore County.
