OKLAHOMA CITY — Favorite Announcer launched from the Remington Park starting gate Thursday night in his $36,800 allowance race for Oklahoma-breds, seized the lead, and never looked back. The speedy 3-year-old drew clear to win the 1 mile-70 yard race by an easy five lengths to post his third straight victory this season.
Sunday Couple Scrambles at Wolf Ridge Golf Course will take place at 2 p.m. Sundays. The entry fee is $15 per person for the nine-hole weekly event.

The 2012 PIT Camp 3-on-3 Winter Classic basketball tournament will take place Dec. 29 at the Wister High School Gymnasium.
The entry fee is $10 per player, with no team having more than four players.
Editor's note — This is the first of a two-part series previewing the Poteau High School basketball teams. The preview story on the Lady Pirates, along with the girls bracket of the Keys Cougars Invitational, will appear in Saturday's edition.
Some might think that youth might be served this season on the hardwood for the Poteau Pirates basketball team. The Pirates, who were 11-16 last season, got to the Class 4A Regional Tournament before seeing their season end.
The Heavener High School freshmen basketball teams split their games on Day 3 of the Poteau Tournament, which took place at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
The Wolves handled the Wilburton Diggers 37-25 in Wednesday night's consolation semifinals to advance to an 11 a.m. consolation championship tilt Saturday against Spiro, which got a bye into Saturday morning's contest.
However, the news was not as good for the Lady Wolves as they were eliminated from the tournament by losing 37-16 to the Roland Lady Rangers.
The 2012-13 seasons will commence tonight for the Heavener High School basketball teams as they entertain Talihina. The girls game will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the boys contest at 8 p.m.
The Wolves, who were 9-15 a season ago, will begin a new era as Jeff Chronister, who previously coached at Sallisaw, takes over for Scott Gregory, who is the new girls coach at Poteau High School.
Paul Moore begins his second season as coach of the Lady Wolves, who were 9-14 a season ago.
Graduation hit the Lady Wolves hard as four senior players graduated, and no starters are back.
The Talihina Lady Golden Tigers basketball team went 22-6 last season and were LeFlore County Tournament runners-up. They expect much the same this season, which will begin with a 6:30 p.m. contest tonight against the Heavener Lady Wolves in Heavener.
The Lady Golden Tigers return two key players who saw a lot of starts a season ago — senior guard/forward Tara Hawkins (7.1 points, 6.8 rebounds a season ago) and senior forward Jazmin Humphreys (4.0, 3.3).
The Poteau Pirates wrestling team will begin its 2012-13 season this weekend, participating in the two-day Jay Duals Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
The Pirates will have a new coach, but not really that much of a new coach. Jack Hornbuckle, who has been helping with the program, is the new coach, replacing Chris Barbee — who resigned after the school year ended the past spring.
“They're more than ready,” Hornbuckle said about getting the season ready. “They're getting tired just working out every day.”
OKLAHOMA CITY — There was no homecoming party for James Harden. His return was met with a smattering of boos and cheers as the former Thunder player faced his previous team for the first time Wednesday night at Chesapeake Energy Arena — and the Oklahoma City Thunder blew out Harden's Houston Rockets 120-98.
One surprising comment to relay was the lack of crowd support at the game. There were many empty seats scattered around the arena, including some in the lower areas close to the court.
The Thunder will entertain the Utah Jazz at 7 pm. Friday night at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
It was awful. The sounds coming from our back deck made my skin crawl.
It was about 5:45 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Everybody that was at my house, a.k.a, “The Jody Ray Sports Complex,” for dinner just had left. We just got done cleaning up, and my wife, Jenny, my son, Jacques, and I were sitting on the couch, getting ready to get our game plan together for “Black Friday” shopping. All of the sudden, we heard this God-awful ruckus out in the back of our house. I grabbed a flashlight to investigate.
