The host Poteau Pirates and Lady Pirates freshmen basketball teams won their opening-round games Tuesday night in the Poteau Freshmen Tournament at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
The Pirates got past the Spiro Bulldogs 42-27, while the Lady Pirates were too much for the Lady Bulldogs in posting a 38-13 victory.
Despite getting 27 points from Adrion Webber, it wasn't enough for the Carl Albert State College Vikings in their 65-62 loss to the 17th-ranked Connors State College Cowboys on Tuesday night at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
A career-high 30 points from D. Brown wasn't enough for the Lady Vikings in their 97-85 loss to the Cowgirls.
The CASC basketball teams will return to action tonight against Murray State College at Beames Fieldhouse in Tishomingo. The women's game will be at 6 p.m., followed by the men's contest at 8 p.m.
The Panama High School basketball teams will get their seasons started tonight at Wilburton, with the girls playing at 6:30 p.m. and the boys at approximately 8 p.m.
The Lady Razorbacks were 12-12 last season, and return four starters from that team.

CAMERON — The Cameron Yellowjackets ran their winning streak to five games after they stung the Bokoshe Tigers 72-43 to celebrate homecoming Tuesday night at the Cameron Gym.
The ’Jackets jumped out to a 20-9 lead after one period and continued increasing their lead from that point.
Pocola 60, Stigler 50: In Pocola, the Indians (1-0) rallied from a 25-21 halftime deficit to get the come-from-behind victory to start the season.
Pocola outscored Stigler 21-16 in the third quarter and doubled the Panthers 18-9 in the final period to seal the deal.
CAMERON — The Bokoshe Lady Tigers remained undefeated on the young season with a 56-27 road win over the Cameron Lady Yellowjackets on Tuesday night at the Cameron Gym.
The Lady Tigers, leading 10-5 after one period, 21-14 at halftime and 32-22 after three quarters, put the game away by outscoring the Lady ’Jackets 24-4 in the final period.
Whitesboro 70, Battiest 32: In Whitesboro, the Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 25-6 lead after a period and never were headed.
Howe 59, Panola 14: In Panola, the Lady Lions clawed their way to an 18-0 lead after a period and never looked back.
