Editor's note — This is the second of a two-part series previewing the Poteau High School basketball teams.
Last season, the Poteau Lady Pirates basketball team was the Cinderella story of the 2012 LeFlore County high school basketball playoffs. After ending the regular season at 5-18 last season, the Lady Pirates won three of five playoff games, won the Class 4A District Tournament, were consolation champions at the regional tournament and got to within three wins of the state tournament.
The Spiro Bulldogs will begin clawing their way to basketball wins Tuesday night when they open their 2012-13 season at Eufaula for an 8 p.m. game.
The Bulldogs were 18-9 last season, and return two starters from last year — junior guard Knifeis Carter (16 points, four rebounds a game last season) and senior guard Jermaine Jimmerson (11 points, eight rebounds).
Carter is among the top 100 players to watch this high school season in the state of Oklahoma in the Vype Oklahoma Basketball Preview magazine.
