Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2012 Poteau High School Sports Hall of Fame.
Categories include: football, boys and girls basketball, baseball, fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls track, boys and girls golf, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls all-around athlete, wrestling, coaching and support and service.
The deadline to submit nominations is March 30.

Poteau senior girls ready for second straight district title

The Poteau Lady Pirate senior basketball players were unable to come away winners on Senior Night against Muldrow on Feb. 7 at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
However, thanks to the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association, they can still win their last game on their home court. The Lady Pirates will entertain the Hilldale Lady Hornets at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse for the Class 4A District Tournament. The Pirates and Hornets will follow at 8 p.m.
If the Lady Pirates win tonight, it would make them back-to-back district champions — which would please them all.

CASC baseball team sweeps Bacone JV

The Carl Albert State College Vikings baseball team ran its record to 4-0 with a doubleheader sweep of the Bacone College junior varsity Friday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field by scores of 15-0 in five innings and 4-1.
The Vikings will have back-to-back days of doubleheaders with Coffeyville, Kan. The two teams will play a twinbill at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Coffeyville, while the two teams will make-up Tuesday's postponed doubleheader at Ival Goodman Field at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

CASC Softball Festival canceled due to threat of rain this afternoon

Due to today's 70-percent chance of rain, Carl Albert State College Softball Coach David Holt announced that the two-day Carl Albert Softball Festival, slated for today and Sunday at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex, has been canceled.
This two-day event was to feature not only the host Lady Vikings, but five Kansas schools, two other Oklahoma schools and a Texas school.
The City of Poteau and Mayor Jeff Shockley had become big backers of the event as it was going to be a great way to not only promote the CASC campus and softball program, but the city and its businesses.

Whitesboro girls make it to today's consolation championship contest of Class B Regional Tournament; Lady Bulldogs suffer Thursday night loss to Red Oak Lady Eagles

The Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs will need one more win to make it to next week's Class B Area Tournament at Kingston.
The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Moss Lady Pirates 45-38 Friday afternoon in the Class B Regional Tournament consolation semifinals at Moss High School.
Whitesboro (15-11) will play Varnum game at 1:30 p.m. this afternoon at Moss High School for the consolation championship, and a trip to next weekend's Class B Area Tournament in Kingston.

Arkoma girls, Cameron boys lose in Class A Regional Tournament; Another loss by either team ends season

WILBURTON — The Arkoma Lady Mustangs and the Cameron Yellowjackets suffered their first postseason losses Thursday night at the Class A Regional Tournament at the new Wilburton Gym.
The Wright City teams both proved too much as the Lady Lumberjax downed the Lady Mustangs 55-50, while the ’Jax stung the ’Jackets 57-36.

Bokoshe girls playing for regional championship tonight, beat Braggs to advance to Class B Area Tournament

BOYNTON — The Bokoshe Lady Tigers accomplished two goals Thursday night at the Class B Regional Tournament.
First, they defeated the Braggs Lady Wildcats 46-34 to advance to tonight's regional title game in Stroud against the Deer Creek-Lamont Lady Eagles at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
Secondly, by reaching tonight's regional championship contest, the Lady Tigers (18-7) has automatically qualified for an appearance in next week's Class B Area Tournament at Cleveland, Okla., since both the regional champion and runner-up advance from the regional tournament.

Carl Albert basketball teams split home games with Redlands

Hannah Ware's career-high 23 points and six blocked shots proved to be the difference for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings as they came away with the season sweep of the Redlands Community College Lady Cougars in a 61-56 win Thursday night at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse in Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
Behind 15 points from Joy Williamson and 50-percent shooting from the field, the Redlands Cougars claimed the 68-50 win over the Carl Albert State Vikings in the second game.
