The Poteau High School basketball teams had their â€śPink Out Gamesâ€ť for breast cancer awareness Friday night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse. They were also hoping to â€śpink outâ€ť the Stilwell Lady Indians and Indians, but the visitors had other ideas.
Stilwell's teams made it a sweep of Poteau as the Indians prevailed 44-33 over the Pirates after the Lady Indians beat the Lady Pirates 40-25.
WHITESBORO â€” The Leflore Savages ended their regular season on a high note as they defeated the Whitesboro Bulldogs 65-53 Friday night at the Whitesboro Gym.
The Savages jumped out to a 13-7 lead after one period, but saw the Bulldogs take a 24-21 lead at halftime thanks to a 17-8 second quarter.
However, Leflore took control of the game with 23-6 third period to take a 44-30 lead into the final quarter.
Cameron 66, Arkoma 45: In Cameron, the Yellowjackets only led the Mustangs by a single point at 13-12 after the first eight minutes.
CAMERON â€” The Arkoma Lady Mustangs ended the week in fine fashion with a 68-47 victory over the Cameron Lady Yellowjackets Friday night at the Cameron Gym.
The Lady Mustangs, who bounced back from a rough loss Thursday night at Keota, led 15-10 after one period and slowly kept increasing their lead from there.
Howe 51, Bokoshe 40: In Howe, the Lady Lions had a 26-20 halftime lead on the Lady Tigers, but Howe outscored Wister 19-11 in the third quarter to take a 45-31 lead into the final period.
It's hard to believe the playoffs are here. It just seems like we started the season just a while back.
But for the five LeFlore County schools in Classes A (Arkoma and Cameron) and B (Bokoshe, Leflore and Whitesboro), the playoffs will begin Friday and Saturday in district tournaments. The complete schedule is listed at the end of this column.
Class 2A, 3A and 4A District Tournaments will not begin until the end of next week. The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association threw some unexpected match-ups for district tournaments.
