Finally, the 2012 Poteau Wood Bat Festival got underway Friday afternoon, but the host Pirates were not the ones celebrating a win.
Thanks to a six-run fifth inning, the visiting Dickson Comets rallied, and held off a potential seventh-inning rally by Poteau, to down the Pirates 6-5 at Town Creek Park.
The Pirates (4-3) will get another chance this afternoon to get a win in their own festival as they will take on the Sallisaw-Central Tigers at 2 p.m. this afternoon at Town Creek Park, which will come on the heels of the Tigers' game with Hartshorne at noon this afternoon.
Friday ended the weeklong Upward Basketball Camp, which took place at the Pansy Kidd Middle School Gym thanks to the Church of the Nazarene.
The event was basically a “Bible Basketball Camp.” Not only was sportsmanship and basketball fundamentals taught to the nearly 60 campers, but there was also devotion time present daily as well.
