There will be a LeFlore County high school fast-pitch softball player hitting the field for the last time this afternoon at the University of Oklahoma Softball Complex.
Poteau's Briley Benson will represent the county for the Middle East team in the Oklahoma Fast-Pitch Softball Coaches Association All-State Games today at OU. The Middle School All-State Game between Benson's East team and the West will take place at 1 p.m.
FORT SMITH, Ark. — It took 12 innings, but the Eastern Oklahoma Riverdawgs Major American Legion baseball team won its Maurice Katzer Tournament opener.
The Riverdawgs scratched across a run in the 12th inning to down Russellville, Ark., by a score of 7-6 Thursday night at Hunts Park.
The ’Dawgs (4-5) were to play Midwest Friday afternoon, then they will play in the championship game at 6 p.m. tonight at Hunts Park.
Spiro's Jeff Walden hit a Texas-League bloop RBI single in the 12th inning to score Spiro's Shane Thompson with the game-winning run.
I spent Memorial Day Weekend in Enid, helping my soon-to-be 86-year-old mother decorate the graves of our family and friends. We did 21 graves on a very humid Saturday morning before Memorial Day.
While I was putting flowers on the graves and sweating puddles of perspiration, I got a phone call from a local athlete's parent — Kim Standridge, whose son Austin, was on Cameron's baseball team.
I had put a preview story in the May 26 edition as an advance for the 40th Kiamichi All-Star Classic with the names of our local athletes who made the softball, baseball and basketball teams.

The Poteau Spirit Center will have a dance camp from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday through next Saturday.
The entry fee is $65 per camper, and each camp will conclude with a performance on the camp's final day.
