While at Wilburton Public Schools, Billy Karr was having to deal with basketball players who played football for the Diggers. Now that he's the new coach of the Whitesboro Bulldogs basketball team, he won't have to concern himself with that any more.
“It had a lot to do with the fact that it's not a football school,” Karr said about taking the coaching job. “I'll be getting my kids in October, and start the season Nov. 1. I did a lot of my assistant coaching job in Okarche with Ray West. I just decided that it was time (to go for this job).”
The 15th annual Poteau Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Monday at Wolf Ridge Golf Course.
Lunch and check-in will begin at noon Monday.
The entry fee is $65 per person or $130 per two-player team. Two mulligans will be available for $10, with a limit of four per team.

Matt Johnson, Carl Albert State College Viking second baseman, has been named to the second team NJCAA All-American Team.
CASC Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Ryan Bowen said Johnson helped lead the Vikings to their highest season win total since 2001, with a final record of 37-21.
Johnson led the Vikings' offense in batting average at .417, scored 48 runs, walked 30 times, and had 70 hits — with 17 of those doubles and 13 home runs. He finished the season with 51 runs batted in.
